Franklin wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:42 pm Do you mean in Mexico or America? And how are they closer than a conservative group like the Eastern Pennsylvania conference?

One interesting place that I visited in Mexico was a service for Mennonites with issues like drug addiction. I was surprised that most of them were Old Colonists.
I mean in Mexico although a handful of Old Colonists do live in America. They would be much like an "Old Order" type of group, doing things like using horse and buggy, trying to stick to farming occupations, practicing worship services according to the pattern common in the early 1800s, and so forth. Eastern Pennsylvania is a different mindset. Their mindset is try to stick as closely as possible to how mainstream Mennonites were in the early 1950s.
I asked the more modern Mennonite who took me there why this is. He said that the Old Colonists follow rules without having a deeper understanding of religion, so they are more likely to fall into something like drug addiction. I can't judge this myself.
This is an opinion that more evangelical Christians tend to hold about Old Colonists and Old Orders.

Statistically speaking, evangelical Christians experience drug addiction at the same rate as the general population.
Here is something I agree with Josh about. The American bible belt and Appalachia is eyebrow deep in an epidemic of substance abuse and addiction. Americans and American evangelicals hardly need to be pointing fingers at Mexicans or Mexican Mennonites on this score.

I also doubt that Mexican Mennonites have a lessor understanding of religion compared to the US variety. That is pretty condescending.

Except what Franklin said is that an evangelical-oriented Mexican Mennonite made a condescending remark about Old Colonists. No Americans were involved.

There is no Colonia Vianna. It's a name used by outside people. Actually Colonia Vianna is Campo 101 (Neustadt), which is part of the Swift Current Colony.

Wife: Just curious, since this topic got revived. Are there any conservative Mennonite churches in northern Mexico, or any other part of Mexico for that matter? Not old colony. I haven’t really heard of any Mexican churches through pilgrim or western fellowship although there’s a bunch of churches all through Central America. The tourist church in Tijuana doesn’t count.

There are lots and lots of Holdeman churches and a number of Apostolic Christian churches. Of course, our churches aren't listened on things like churchindex.org:
A map-index of Anabaptist and similar churches.
The church that fully supported Jeriah Mast and tried to help him evade prosecution and begged for leniency is listed, though. Just shows what some people's priorities are, I guess.

Wife: I don’t know which church that was irt mast. I’m just seeing a bunch of nationwide churches over there. Do the Holdeman have directories? it’s more of a vague curiosity at this point.

It's an unaffiliated Charity church and is listed (Shining Light Christian Fellowship). I would consider anyone who attends such a church to be in grave danger for their soul.

Thus, I am questioning why Apostolic Christian, Holdeman, and other obviously conservative Anabaptist churches are not listed.

Yes, Gospel Publishers publishes a yearbook with lots of information in it.

Yes, in Mexico there are several churches affiliated with the Nationwide Conference and others with the Biblical Mennonite Alliance

For me, it's completely illogical how someone who abuses more than 30 children only spends 5 years in prison. It's totally absurd and an affront to the victims

Just out of curiosity, John, which conference do you attend? I thought it was a church affiliated with CAM
