When it just doesn't fit anywhere else.

I didn't need to listen to cordless phones back then. I had a local 2m repeater in my scanner. (this was the mid 90's BTW) The conversations I heard on there were enough to keep me entertained!

Got 7 or 8 of those in my basement as well!
Any of them work? I have done a few AA5s, and a blankpunt multband.

Yes, I have an old GE tombstone style, can't tell you the model number off hand but I believe it's late 1930's. It works. I bought a lot of 11 for $200, sold 3 for more than half my investment. Now i need to part with 6 or 7 more!

Superhet or regenerative?

Generally most of the capacitors need be replaced before you get anything.

Had a CB radio for about 12 years or so. I did not use it for chatter; only had it for emergency situations and keeping abreast of emergency conditions on the roads both while traveling and at home. Around 1998 I traded it in for a cell phone.

I have no idea. I make signs. Ask me questions about signs and I can answer intelligently!

If you tell me what tubes are in it, I likely can tell you what you have. My suspicion is that it is an early All American 5. If it is, they are a walk in the park to get working.

You would be shocked what some of those old boat anchors go for on ebay. I had acquired one through a trade years ago and sold it on ebay. Paid for a lot of modern ham gear!

Yes, some of them do. I am able to rebuild most 5 tube superhets, and get them working better than new. I generally won't try to fool with the regenerative type sets, as well as the multi band ones. Late 30s are likely to be superhets. \

They are actually the most dangerous ones to work on. Chassis is at line voltage, with no isolation.

I have some radio buddies that get into the vintage radios. Obviously they would be older gentlemen that have the time and money to do that. I also have friend that does a lot of "home brew" projects, like building tiny radios in an Altoid tin that only put out a fraction of a watt in power.

I've built antennas before, which as I understand is another niche of the hobby.
