A spelling quiz to go along with the National Spelling Bee, which concluded tonight. This year's winning word was "bromocriptine."
I represented my school in the countywide spelling bee twice. I was eliminated by "secession" (which I misunderstood as succession, and the sentence they used it in did not distinguish between the two) one year, and by "cloche" (which I had never heard of) the other. Maybe that helps explain why I am entertained by malapropisms: words that are cloche, but no cigar.
