They actually didn’t where I live until cell phones with unlimited 4G data came common along with Starlink for home Internet. Only options for Internet unless you want to pay a great deal of money.

We have a few people here on this forum who are primarily known by their nickname (despite not living in a holler), as one would know if they poked around.
if one pokes around long enough, it becomes evident, mods know identities pretty well.
when i first registered on MD, i was warned early to not over-trust on this or any public forum.
as years have passed, the need to be obscure has increased, for instance, on MD, personal photos+videos were often shared. it was really nice. no more.

the internet future is expected to increase the need for discretion.
i’m sorry to say.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Well that was a blast from the past

Opening my apartment's mailbox to see the little red envelopes used to be the high point of my week

I know y’all really really miss Robert. I do too. Looks to be some of y’all miss this max guy too. Sorry I’m not him. Not even kin to him.
I’d been hoping to visit Robert down in Texas and bring him a smoked ham come January. It’s about the only month we wouldn’t be roasting ourselves in Texas heat. It’s a much sadder world without Robert’s memes and jokes spiced with his common sense.

Wife: I feel bad. I shouldn’t have said anything yesterday because even though it seems highly probable, that’s different from being 100% certain. Because of that, I feel like I was engaging in gossip.

Hoping the mods can clear everything up. Even if it is true, I personally think that it might be out of a desire for community.

As a side note, I think all people, especially teens, should be cautious with sharing personal information with anyone on PMs or meeting people that they don’t know personally or through a mutual friend. If they are minors, they should allow their parents or at least some trusted adult to look at PMs, because I remember as a teen having some creepy people try to contact me on MySpace (one supposedly being a friend of one of my friends a couple grades older than me), and a couple of my friends have been in close calls.

I don’t think that’s a concern in this situation, but it is common sense for Internet safety in general.

So you do know who he is apparently. Only way you could know whether or not you are kin to him...

We're all kin, you just have to go back to the three brothers who came over with their parents on the big boat.

You’re funny. I read the archives just like everyone does to find who or what y’all are talking about. Reading the archives it’s pretty plain to me he’s not one of my kin.

Now you’re on the right track. I don’t know y’all’s friends and family and I wouldn’t expect y’all to share that either unless it’s using an allegorical alias when telling about a situation that everyone might learn from. We been doing that for generations in real life to give folks growing room.
I think the internet’s pretty dangerous. Even people we know can get hung up and make bad choices because of the influences on the internet. Anybody with emotional problems is really vulnerable to bad influences especially. Its talked about it a lot in the news on those opinion shows where they bring in the psychologist guests to figure out why an assassin started killing. The only good I see coming from all that is a warning to all of us to keep our information private to protect our families and friends and ourselves.
