My wife made a peach cobbler today. My mother and both grandmothers would make it, and I had fond memories, but I hadn't had a peach cobbler in decades.
Wow. This stuff is amazing.
Do you make peach cobbler? If not, what other desserts that our mothers and grandmothers made are still amazing, but not as common today?

That’s one of my favorites.
Mom made the one that Biswuivk had the recipe for. Easy too.
It called for canned peaches & I tried using freshmpeacjes & didn’t like it S much.
Banana pudding was a favorite growing up where you layer vanilla wafers, bananas, and either banana pudding or vanilla pudding . Topped off within whipped cream and vanilla pudding crumbs on top. Yum!

We made it that way in Boy Scouts, in a dutch oven in the fireplace. The kind of dutch oven you can cover with hot coals on top. Simple enough for a Boy Scout to cook, and everyone liked it. Sometimes with spray whipped cream.
My wife made the real thing with real peaches. Completely different and much better, more like what my two grandmothers and mother made. But both are plenty good.

I added some vanilla ice cream to my cobbler today, and it was good.
Have you tried cinnamon sugar on peaches?

Thanks for that idea, we have 3 peaches & vanilla ice cream & cinnamon
This might come as a surprise but the tastiest juiciest peaches I ever had were from orchards near Lake Erie, can’t wait till they’re ready at the fruit stands.
Maybe because they aren’t shipped before ripening.
Move over Georgia!

I love the way you did it in Boy Scouts. My brother was an Eagle Scout & Dad very active in it, I don’t recall them making desserts like that.
I need to try the fresh way again.

Wife: Absolutely. We got on the kick from Soloist’s mom, although I am embarrassed to say that as a child, I always thought peach/apple pie or cobbler looked disgusting and wouldn’t even try it.
We actually just got done canning peach pie filling, which most of it was done by my oldest daughter, but for the best cobblers, we have one recipe (his mom’s) for the peach mixture with fresh or frozen Peaches for good consistency, and we either do a topping we drop on top of it that we got from his mom or we use a topping that envelops it, which is so amazing. it was part of the recipe for cherry cobbler that we got from one of our friends and it works great for Peaches and is so crunchy and delicious.
This is like our favorite dessert ever, and I have found that it does not diminish the taste using Stevia baking blend with the peaches, but the sugar in the topping has to be mostly to all sugar to taste good, especially in the second style topping because it caramelizes.

Hood River Peaches were amazing and affordable and our personal favorite was sweet dreams. It was very affordable in the northwest through Mennonite connections.
