Most or all of this drama, humiliation, wasted taxpayer money could be spared -
with even modest attempt at presenting balanced facts from the start.

I actually just became a train fanatic in the past few weeks. My wife and I took a diesel rail car ride from Berks County to upstate (Jim Thorpe, for those in Pennsylvania). I never knew there was so much to learn about trains! There was an older gentleman across from us that had a radio with all the train frequencies programmed into it, so we could hear all the radio traffic between the engineer and conductors.

We plan on another trip this fall.

That sounds like a fun trip. My wife won't put one foot on a train. She doesn't like them and says that traveling on one gives her motion-sickness. In all of our years of marriage we have never traveled on a train because of that. Apparently when she was young she took a train trip that was pretty bad.

She wouldn't like this ride. Look up the Carbon County High Bridge. 160' tall and nearly 1000' long. You can't see the bridge when you look out the window. Just straight down. Train slows to 10 mph to cross it.

You're right. She would not go near it: motion sickness AND heights. She's not a fan of heights either.

Is this it?

That's it.

Here's a few scrolling pics of their freight train crossing it.

Not sure what area you hail from, but I highly recommend visiting Jim Thorpe if you're in reasonable driving distance.
