Gas Grilling?

Post by steve-in-kville »

I never used one before. My son bought me one as an early Father's Day gift. Anything I need to know before I singe my facial hair off?

Just don't let Ragpicker see this post. That would be my first bit of advice.

No, not at all. The only practical advice I have is that you should always, and I do mean always, start it with the lid open. Oh, and head over to amazingribs.com

Just a quick question, but how long can a propane cylinder be used? I thought that 20# cylinders were good for 12 years, what about the larger sizes? I have a few 30's and even a 40 somewhere.

In Ontario they won't fill them after they are more than ten years old.

The big deal these days seems to be the overfill protection valves.

If it has the old “star” shaped valves, forget about filling it. If you have the triangular ones, you are good to go in most cases.

Us city folk exchange them at Home Depot.

I have a 20# I'm just gonna exchange at the hardware store. I can have my bigger tanks re-certified for a few bucks.

Cooked a few meals on the grill so far. Did a few things with cast iron skillets and aluminum pans. So far, so good. I want to do dome chili or beans this weekend. Apparently after watching a few youtube vids, I discovered I've been cooking hotdogs the wrong way all these years!

Soooooo... how are we supposed to cook them? Can you post a link? My wife is big on using a cast iron skillet and a dutch oven. We have only those things in the rv along with a sauce pot and a crock pot. She is the master chef, I'm only good at sandwiches and the canned soup heated in the microwave.

I'll try to find that video and post it hear. The guy that made the video took grilling hotdogs to a whole 'nother level. He even marinated them in liquid smoke, toasted the rolls, everything.
