Vaccinations - Poll
The intent of this thread is to encourage critical thinking on the topic of vaccinations- something I'm asked about occasionally. So we can best learn from each other, please cite the basis for your views- the Bible, statistics, an Alternative Medicine practitioner or author, pharmaceuticals, CDC, World Health, Medical profession, etc.

Re: Vaccinations - Poll
I did not choose any of the comply options because we comply simply because we feel it is the right thing to do. If I have to choose between trusting many of the quack medical experts out there or scientists I will take scientists any day.
I am just barely old enough to remember quite a number of people that were struck with polio. I am not old enough to remember when people died en mass with various sicknesses such as scarlet fever. Just remember this if you are choosing not to vaccinate your children even though they are not allergic. What you are doing is putting very small babies that are not yet old enough to be vaccinated as well as children that cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons at a much greater risk then would be necessary. I could not live with myself if my will full neglect was responsible for someone else's child getting sick.
And with the amount of non vaccinated children out there it will start to be much more common I am afraid.

BTW I see so far no one has any opposition to vaccinations so perhaps I am speaking to the choir. If so that is great.

Re: Vaccinations - Poll
I still peek in from time to time...
I feel quite strongly that using the aborted babies in vaccines is wrong and I will not use the vaccines containing MRC-5 or WI-38. If I get bit by a rabid animal, I have two options, death or a crazy drive to Canada.
All other vaccines are acceptable to me with one caveat, they are starting to come out with research suggesting that there could be an unexpected issue with yearly flu shots. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4387051/ There are other studies as well but thats an easy one to start with. I wouldn't stake any position off of this article yet but interesting to keep an eye on.

Re: Vaccinations - Poll
This article seems to indicate a loss of effectiveness when vaccinated year after year. I think I will continue to go for my annual flu shot with the hope that last year's vaccine was not as effective because of the make up of the vaccine, rather than because of repeated vaccination.

I have never had the flu shot but each year I think I should. Since the flu shot is a different variant each year based on what strains of the Flu they expect to be prominent I expect you are correct.Hats Off wrote:This article seems to indicate a loss of effectiveness when vaccinated year after year. So do you agree with them on evolution?appleman2006 wrote:I did not choose any of the comply options because we comply simply because we feel it is the right thing to do. If I have to choose between trusting many of the quack medical experts out there or scientists I will take scientists any day.
I think it is important that we seek the truth. Which can be easily manipulated with "science."
Notice the differences in these graphs:

One focuses on cases while the other focuses on deaths.
One shows a drop in cases after the vaccines while the other shows a longer time span to show no change in down ward rate of deaths.
One could come from a more reputable source while the other from a dog website...
I like math, it can be quite accurate, but it falls short where people manipulate or where information is missing. Both graphs could be guilty of such.
I think we need to start with being honest with ourselves. I think it is required to being open to scientist being wrong or manipulative before we can see truth.
And by the way, epidemiological studies like these which are used by drug companies don't stand up as fact in the court system as fact.

Even if measles isn't likely to kill me, I'd still rather not have it, and am thankful for having been vaccinated in childhood. One focuses on cases while the other focuses on deaths.
I don't generally get flu shots, though, and can't remember having had the flu for years.

Re: Vaccinations - Poll
While I love to read stories of great scientific discoveries of the past, like Jonas Salk and Edward Jenner each competing to provide the best Polio vaccine to the world, or how the method of pasteurization was discovered by Louis Pasteur, unfortunately, the vice of greed has more often substituted what is lucrative for the Medical profession over what is healthiest for the human body.
Here’s a chart comparing the number of different vaccinations given in the years 1940, 1980 and 2012: https://goo.gl/images/VC8aBH

Theories about events 6,000 years ago are very different from proven science about what is happening in the present day. Evolution and vaccines are two very different topics.Wade wrote:So do you agree with them on evolution?appleman2006 wrote:I did not choose any of the comply options because we comply simply because we feel it is the right thing to do. I think it is important to seek truth too, but the from what I can tell truth is on the side of vaccines, and the anti-vaccine community has a proven history of lying and fraud.I think it is important that we seek the truth. Which can be easily manipulated with "science."
The burden of proof for FDA approval is very, very high - much higher than the burden of proof in a court of law.And by the way, epidemiological studies like these which are used by drug companies don't stand up as fact in the court system as fact.
