Who has a garden? What size? What's in it? What's coming up now?
I have a very small raised bed garden after not gardening for a long time. Fenced in with chicken wire because of deer and dogs.
Tomatoes, zucchini, kale, spinach, red lettuce, cucumber, basil, oregano, thyme, sorrel. So far we're eating the herbs, sorrel, red lettuce, and basil. We have oregano and spearmint in another small bed that we've had for years.

Peas (though something has eaten most of them).Bootstrap wrote:Who has a garden? What size? What's in it? What's coming up now?

We has a frost last Tuesday. Most Mainers don't plant their gardens until the end of May or beginning of June.
I have tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and broccoli under grow lights ready to plant this weekend. We'll do beans carrots, onions and herbs as well. We used to do upwards to an acre when we had a farm stand. Now we do about 1000 square feet inside the frame of our old hoop house.

Re: What's in your garden?
At our new old house, we have 4 little raised beds with sweet and hot peppers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, chard, and spinach.
We also started a little herb garden with basil & oregano so far, and garlic chives seeded. There are a few old grape vines and we planted some old bean seed we were given under them; a few germinated. We recently put in some raspberry plants and little plum and hazelnut trees. To block our view of our neighbors' big plastic garage wall, we put in a row of sunchokes.
We also have some shared garden space with some friends. Lots of garlic and potatoes, with some more lettuce, spinach and chard. Plenty of tomatoes and peppers. Also some sweet potatoes. And lots of the most nutritious crop we grow, stinging nettle which we didn't plant.

Rabbits are tasty. Cats? Maybe plant your catnip in a different area?Neto wrote:Unfortunately, the neighbors' cats, and the rabbits from the whole area.

Re: What's in your garden?
We have (inviting) raised garden boxes. (But they are NOT intended for outhouse boxes for cats!) My wife put mesh over them, which helps. I used to have chicken wire fence up all around the garden, but she doesn't like it, so it came down.JimFoxvog wrote:Rabbits are tasty. Cats? Tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries, celantro (personally I hate the stuff), jalapeno & other kinds of peppers, garlic, onions (but no leaks....), etc. Also have blueberries & black raspberries. Trees: apple, peach, pear, & cherry. (Used to have a patch of white strawberries, but she wanted rid of them, so they came out. She told me not to eat them - that they weren't meant for that, but I did anyway.)

Re: What's in your garden?
Before we hit the road, my wife kept a "kitchen garden" to supply our vegetables and fruits. Cabbages and collards in the fall. Chards, tomatoes, beans, etc in spring. She still keeps pots of oregano and other herbs.Neto wrote:We have (inviting) raised garden boxes. (But they are NOT intended for outhouse boxes for cats!) My wife put mesh over them, which helps. Re: What's in your garden?
I put PVC pipe around some of my wife's trees and plants and then put bird netting over it and it kept out all sorts of varmints. The only thing that got through it was a raccoon, which could not resist a peach in a trap and soon paid for its mistake.Neto wrote:We have (inviting) raised garden boxes. Re: What's in your garden?
i’m not sure where they’re nesting, but i hear late night owls every Jan-Feb-ish .. i have fewer yard+home critters here than we did in town. they keep things tidy. red foxes help, too.Wayne in Maine wrote:We have a pair of nesting owls on our propertynand we don’t even have chipmunks in our yard now!karpos wrote: We bought some fake owls off of amazon and my wife thinks they have helped.
