I like this. I suppose some more of you can identify with this also.

This has become more real to me the last year and a half since I contracted Lyme disease and can no longer dream about being a "Christian super man" some day.

If everyone were like this...

I do marvel at some of the things I see some of you do through CAM and other thing's.

But as time goes on I marvel more and more about the work my wife does so quietly and lovingly each day in our home.

Not that one is better than the other, but to be faithful in the little things.

Our message this morning was on contentment- it was a really good message- not sure if contentment and mediocre is the same thing- accepting whatever has happened to us as well- i.e. lyme disease- somewhat or drastically- whatever the came may be, altering 'our' plans but that does not mean God cannot use us all - as Wade uses the example of his wife, I think it is a great example.

Here is someone who I've always been in awe of who could have turned her adversity into bitterness but then God really used her so much!

I hope it’s okay. My wife and I decided for mediocrity 18 or so years ago for the sake of our children, after seeing how hard childhood can be with the instability that comes with being an over-achieving follower of Jesus.

Some people probably need pushed to do more.
Some people probably need pushed to do less.
And some people are probably about just right.

Sounds like the world already has a savior, and it isn't you or me.
What if I embrace my limitations and stop railing against them. Make peace with who I am and what I need and honor your right to do the same. Accept that all I really want is a small, slow, simple life. A mediocre life. A beautiful, quiet, gentle life. I think it is enough.

Yes - but isn't this defined primary in terms of abiding in Jesus, love, discipleship, and joy? Maybe we don't each call thousands of people to become Christians. Maybe my main ministry is to be a good friend to a few people. Some people have greater callings, like Billy Graham. Some people have smaller callings. What matters is listening for your calling and being true to it.

Here's that verse in context. The emphasis is on abiding in Jesus and love, not on our own greatness. Those are two things we cannot afford to be mediocre in.
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in me he is thrown away like a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire, and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

“This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you. These things I command you, so that you will love one another.
