Around here (Southwest Washington/metro Portland) generic eggs can be had at most grocery stores for about $2/dozen and sometimes less. That doesn't seem high to me.
The free range, organic, etc. stuff is more. But not the generic eggs. The cheapest local eggs I see today are $1.69 a dozen. Fred Meyer is our regional Kroger chain here in the PNW.

Price of eggs in our household has gone sky high... hens are molting... I wasn't able to meet the current market price for an extra egg at breakfast today... I may have something up my sleeve if I get the new clothesline with the wheels rigged up though

Your local Safeway has them advertised for $1.99 a dozen: https://www.safeway.com/weeklyad?storeId=1960

Huh. I thought that was one of the places I saw that price. I bought them elsewhere and thought it was very expensive . So when I found myself at another store(s?), I looked at the price and saw the same prices.Ken wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:35 pmYour local Safeway has them advertised for $1.99 a dozen: https://www.safeway.com/weeklyad?storeId=1960

Eggs seem to have a ridiculous range in prices.R7ehr wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:40 pmHuh. I thought that was one of the places I saw that price. I usually buy the 2-dozen "free range" packs from Costco which are usually $4.99 because that is where we usually get groceries. But I see coupon specials for less at the local groceries. I'm guessing they use eggs as a loss leader because it is a price people are attuned to and it gets them into the store. I honestly don't know how the egg industry makes money on $2/dozen eggs.

Prices hung around the $4/dz mark for awhile, dropped off to a low of around $2/dz in early October, but are currently shooting up and are back over $4 this week.Ernie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 11:30 amSo Mike, what happened to the egg market then. I haven't been following...mike wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 4:27 pmIf, as an egg producer, you can keep from ever getting bird flu (which is most producers), these big runs have to be really good for profits. However, sales drop off a cliff also, so volume is negatively affected. Heirbyadoption could maybe clue us in here (I sometimes buy eggs from the producer he works for).
