My daughter, who is an author of fantasy fiction, got into Harry Potter. Her Lutheran pastor (a conservative Lutheran synod) told her it is okay. I watched the first two with her and admit they were fascinating, but I was always uneasy by the magic, especially the "white' magic. I am not comfortable with it at all. In the Bible they tell of people being born again and burning their witchcraft books. Harry potter is not witchcraft books in the sense of an instruction manual, but they probably have one like that too.
On the other hand I am a big fan of Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung, but that is way different from Harry Potter, and is not focused on magic, though there are gods and demi-gods, and there is magic but it is not so in-your-face as Harry Potter's.

Most folklore or folktales have some form of magic in it. That includes Wagner’s source material, the Nibelungenlied. It includes the Arthurian material he used for “Parzival.”Fidelio wrote:On the other hand I am a big fan of Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung, but that is way different from Harry Potter, and is not focused on magic, though there are gods and demi-gods, and there is magic but it is not so in-your-face as Harry Potter's.
