Local guy used diluted muriatic acid on the basement concrete floor. This morning and Saturday he's applying the two coats of Dura Rubber liquid flooring. It should be cured and dry by the time distant cousin and his wife roll up in here next Thursday. They'll only be here one night and will have to sleep on cots in the basement because the house is packed with relatives. The basement is heated and has its own bathroom. I asked them to bring food to share since my wife had all the meals budgeted already. We'll see if they do as asked.

Never heard of Dura Rubber before. Checked it out. Looks like a good surface cover for it. Let me know how it turns out.

I will. It's expensive but I think it'll be worth it. Supposedly you can use it on decking boards too. I saw a sample the guy had and liked it. It's one of those anti-slip surfaces. Our home was built in 1970 something. It's a poured concrete basement but like anything that's older it gets cracks from settling. The guy was here this morning and installed the last coat. Yesterday before he put down the first coat he covered some of the larger cracks with a kind of stiff cloth to create a smoother surface. Got to say it looks good but the smell while its curing needs to be aired out so the two windows down there are open. My wife chose the color light blue. A tad bit more but if she's happy then it's worth it.

Got a call from the distant cousin. They said they're going to go on up the road instead of stopping over. The cynic in me says they figured they didn't want to sleep in a basement on cots and have to pay for their food too. Suits me. I hadn't seen this cousin in more than 45 years.

Nope.

One night, two meals. It would not have hurt them to bring a Stouffer's or a flat of eggs even. Remember we're already going to have a housefull.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

Updated report for Robert. I like it. Walked on it barefoot and I might be imagining it but the floor seems to be a little warmer. I’m happy to see the cracks covered too. The curing smell is barely there now.

I took a couple of cots down there to try it out on Saturday night with one of the sons. It was plenty warm even in the bathroom which was also coated with the DuraRubber. I’m going to check out the local thrift stores after Christmas to see if I can find twin or full bed frames. I have some very nice inflatable mattresses that will be good for visitors. I’ll cut 3/4 in plywood to fit the frames for those mattresses to rest on. I’m needing to put up my leftover fake paneling down there too. The blue floor and white paneling will look nice. It’ll be like a whole new addition for the house. My wife has already claimed it as her “she-cave” for her projects. The old chest of drawers is beat up but she says she’ll paint it after the holidays.

Overall the price is worth it especially now those ugly cracks are gone.
