Home Based Business
Re: Home Based Business
My concern with sewing masks is that it would be a short term deal. I would think that eventually, there won't be much of a market. So, if you wanted to start with masks, that would not be a bad idea, I would also have other offerings in order to pick up the slack once masks are not needed as much. (Perhaps I am having wishful thinking? I don't know...)

I think you are right. Even if the pandemic stays with us a long time, there will eventually be so many masks out there sold in every convenience store they will be like paper napkins or kleenex. Available everywhere for basically free. So the niche market of expensive hand-crafted masks is probably time-limited.violet wrote:My concern with sewing masks is that it would be a short term deal. I had made some masks during lockdown and they sold very well. I was selling them in 2 local stores. The one store had other people helping supply theirs so mine were the extras. The other store isn't as busy and very few are selling now. Maybe when school starts - if they go back to school - there will be a need for more. I like the idea of having other things to sell besides masks.

Have you heard of slings?
They are basically fabric made baby carriers.
A crunchy friend of mine many moons ago let me borrow one of hers.
The sling is a life saver. You just pop the baby in and off you go...to do whatever needs to be done...garden, home, laundry...you get the idea.
They are fabulous....and expensive. (which is why I learned to sew my own). If you do a search for them on etsy you will see all kinds of them and they are good money makers.
just another idea.
I honestly detest strollers...a major pain and so bulky and cumbersome...but a sling is washable, fold-able and easy to use.

I did make a sling for my babies. I used it some, but preferred a backpack or front pack carrier. The sling tended to put too much weight on one side and I needed to see my chiropractor too often.
I'll have to get out my sling and see how I made it. They are nice for those who can use them.
I did use strollers - umbrella & regular ones. And yes, you can pack LOTS of stuff in them!

I have a friend I grew up with whose wife is very much into slings, which she calls "baby wearing". They both try to parent "equally", so he tries to spend as much time wearing their babies in a sling as she does. Quite an interesting lifestyle.

I bought a white van and have been doing sub-contract delivery work for various courier companies as an owner operator. Might be something to look into.
