Today I discovered the seeds I planted from the yellow pepper and the red pepper we bought at the grocery store, are up!
The sweet potato slips I ordered came today. They were quite wilted. They are setting in water. Hopefully till morning they will have lifted up their heads again.
Today ...
Re: Today ...
I found that ordering sweet potatoes was crazy expensive. So, I found two organic ones at the grocery store. I read that if you sun them for a week or two, then place them in water, you might get slips. So, I figured I would try it.
Today, we are messing with the art of creating a natural fence using sticks. It is a learning process that we are "perfecting."
The husband is working on finishing up some rain barrels for me.
I was missing winter something fierce, but I am pretty much over that now.
....and tired of frost advisories.
I am surprised at how quick ducks grow and how much they eat.
They were gifts. I think we have Pekins, but the verdict is still out. I have three. If all three are boys, I am going to get another "gift" so I can have duck eggs.
Yes, Temp, I did wear three pairs of socks this winter. Winter in the mountains is no joke and I am not too proud to admit that I wear three pairs.

i’ve been wearing basic style of Smartwool socks for years+years. i first found them in a local sporting goods store.
https://www.backcountry.com/smartwool-h ... -crew-sock
when i started buying them, they were basic styles, now it’s kind of hard to find the basic styles+colors, they offer lots of styles, weights, and colors for men+women. early-on, there wasn’t much variety, downsize for women.
they aren’t itchy, and they’re machine washable.
i use them all year, different weights, and i use this hiking weight type (in the link) as slippers around the house. cozy.
i sometimes give them as gifts.
i haven’t used multiple layers of socks since. last winter i was walking in 0F temps, my feet were toasty. 1 pair.
my hiking boots may have some light insulation, they’re not advertised as such. (their weight reminds of cross country ski boots.) not bulky, but warm.

Re: Today ...
those are some lovely socks!
I will keep those in mind for winter.
are they soft inside?
(and today...we discuss socks
)
Edited to Add...you know Temp, after looking at those socks, I may have a pair to two similar....my problem is that during winter it seems my sock drawer is "raided" by the little people that I live with. They come and go all day in the snow, thus using up a lot of socks...all mine...and by the time evening comes around...the time when I go out with them...all of of the "good" socks are wet and hanging by the fire...thus, I am left with whatever is not wanted and therefore, I don't get the good ones....Perhaps I need a hidden off limit sock drawer...but, that would require some planning on my part. Perhaps I should begin to think about this now, before the next winter. Some mom's hide snacks. I hide socks.

i gave them their own Smartwools for Christmas.
i bought my granddaughter her first pair several years ago. hers were deep pink ski style socks with some sort of design.
she wore them for a few years.
they are soft and not itchy! i think that was the promise that got me to buy the first pair. and, machine washable wool.
i air-fluff in the dryer, but mostly hang+dry. i think they can go in the dryer, but i use the dryer minimally to save electricity, and wear on clothing. they say wool retains body heat when wet, i’ve tried to avoid testing the theory.
they are nice to wear around the house. they’re warm, but breathe. lots of slippers do not breathe at all.

13 years ago, she got her first Smartwools as an infant. they were plain then, solid colors.
they stayed on her tiny kicking feet!

This company has grown a lot since i first discovered their basic socks ..
1994. hmm. we must have been early customers. in Illinois.
i believe i bought my first pair in the 90’s. i think they were priced at a whopping $8.99 (?)
Maybe it was after 2005 that Timberland began adding the fanciness of colors, products, styles?
i did not know about the Timberland acquisition. but, that’s how it is, isn’t it?
i prefer the basics. the colors+patterns are fun for children.

Re: Today ...
Today/tonight we are getting 1/2" of rain, 1/4" yesterday so with the heat of past 2 days my seeds and plants are loving this. My first planting of green beans sprouted and my marigolds and nasturtiums are sprouting.

Today our order of live plants arrived! 9 Blueberry bushes, 25 strawberry plants, 10 asparagus roots, onions and gladiolus. The peonies were sold out, so we didn't get any.
