Re: Today ...
We hear owls quite often here, usually one calling to another on opposite ends of the holler out back of our place. Of course we also hear the coyotes a lot too.temporal1 wrote:these kinds of sightings are sad. if there’s a cold snap, they may not last long.Wayne in Maine wrote:I saw a pair of Bluebirds yesterday. It certainly is unusual to see them in this area this time of year.
i’m hoping to hear owls soon. altho my sleep is better now, i might not hear them at 3am.

Re: Today ...
We have a lot of birds of prey here in the desert of Central Oregon. Lots of great horned owls, ospreys, ravens, red tailed hawks, and night hawks. Also some bald eagles. We regularly hear their hoots, shriek's, and shrills. Unfortunately no cardinals.

Re: Today ...
We have been having a pair of owls take up residence in our back yard in the spring and early summer for the past several years. I found their nest but have never seen any young in the area. They do thin out the chipmunk population in our yard for sure.gcdonner wrote:We hear owls quite often here, usually one calling to another on opposite ends of the holler out back of our place. Today I discovered the Gala Apple seeds that I put in a ziplock bag in a damp paper towel, now have green leaves and white roots growing! Tomorrow I will plant them in pots. Brought a bucket of potting soil inside to warm up before we plant them.

Exciting!Somebody wrote:Today I discovered the Gala Apple seeds that I put in a ziplock bag in a damp paper towel, now have green leaves and white roots growing! Tomorrow I will plant them in pots. Brought a bucket of potting soil inside to warm up before we plant them.
When i’m transplanting into potting soil, a day or two before, i add rain water to the dry soil, to first get it evenly moist. Big help to transplanting. i keep a few gallons of rain water in recycled water containers in the garage. (i have well water plants don’t favor.)

Today, in Lancaster PA, we live in a winter wonderland. It has been snowing off and on since Sunday. And still snowing. So thankful for a trusty snow blower.

I'm so thankful that I don't need a snowblower or snowplow anymore. Tennessee is the place for me!Grace wrote:Today, in Lancaster PA, we live in a winter wonderland. It has been snowing off and on since Sunday. And still snowing. So thankful for a trusty snow blower.

Today I learned that when it is 22 degrees outside, three pairs of socks work the best. Also, hot lemonade is quite good and warming.
