I growed up in Texas. I don't start warming up until about 90 degrees. 8-)

Had to look him up.

If you are going to hear it, you got to go with Johnny Cash.

i’d “braced myself” coming into 2020, pretty sure it was going to be awful for politics.
o.my. it’s only June. what’s next? :-|

i came across this encouraging post:
.. ✏️ Elsewhere, in U.S., Ivier Sylvester wrote:
“As a Black man myself, I must say, I am much more in fear of being shot and killed by another Black man than I am a White cop.
If "Black Lives Matter," then it must matter to us first.
Black-On-Black murders happen far, far more frequently than a White cop killing one us. We kill each other in more ways than shooting one another too.
We kill each other with our words or our musical lyrics as well-referring to Black women using the b word and by selling illicit street drugs to each other such as crack-cocaine and heroin.
I'm sadden by how we as African-Americans give ourselves a pass when we tally multiple murders of one another in a single weekend.
Here's Chicago's tally for the first weekend in June 2020:
92 Black-On-Black Shootings and of that figure, 27 Black men was killed at the hands of another Black man.
Where's the outrage at that?
27 Black men killed at the hands of another Black man in a single weekend but Black people say "Black Lives Matter." I think not. "Black Lives Matter" only when killed by someone White.

How can we as African-Americans expect another race to respect our lives if we don't even respect our own lives.
Our code of silence regarding this issue of Black-On-Black killing one another startles me.
Dr. King and those who marched with him changed the entire world by marching peacefully without looting and burning down property.
In my view, Black people killing one another in such large numbers and with rapid frequency is the real issue that need to be addressed as priority.

Then there's the issue of high profile Blacks who make it big, then, don't come together to create a Black Capitalist Class to buy up the economy in the Black Community to address the issue of the high unemployment rate among Black men instead of crying racism when discriminated against at historically White companies.
Go into the Hispanic's neighborhood or Asian's or any other race or ethnic group and they own the economy in their neighborhood. Not so with Blacks.

We get our economics together and all this racism will cease. The ONLY thing people really respect is the American Greenback and we have proven over the decades we don't care about one another enough to invest in ourselves like other ethnic groups do.”
Ivier Sylvester
i do not know Ivier Sylvester. i asked for his ok to share it. he agreed.
i viewed his FB page. it appeared authentic.

being not awfully far from Chicago, i often think of the thousands of victims and their grieving families, every year, ignored by the “almighty” media and politicians. i suspect many may not have an obituary, i don’t know. every victim has a story. but. the silence. while the occasional one is cherry-picked for some chosen reason. so, Ivier Sylvester’s words touched me. so much agony ignored.

the world blows up over different problems. never this one.

no word of any abortion clinics being damaged by rioters.
even with the virus shut down, a new Illinois PP clinic opened near the Wisconsin border.
IL DNC governor is proud to have new clinics near borders of states that restrict abortion.
by his own words.

His post made me cry. When will we as Christians realize our responsibility to our black communities' spiritual needs?
What Josh said in another thread applies here, in light of Mr. Sylvester's words,

"Without people converting to Christ, they will continue to be violent and lawless at some level, and in the end times lawlessness will increase. When both civilian citizen, police, and government officials and employees are all lawless, there is not some kind of magic legislation to pass that will somehow end the violence."

We’re going over to friends for an afternoon BBQ. My wife is making a casserole to take with us. I’m taking a bag of charcoal as a thank you. It should be a fun time if it doesn’t get too hot.

We had a birthday party for the middle boy yesterday. Had the two neighbors over and two other boys. They had a fun swim party. It was nice to feel a return to normal.

Watching the movie Just Mercy- Amazon Prime is showing it free of charge for a bit in lieu of all that has gone on with George Floyd. Read the book a few years ago and it was excellent. It gives us as white people just a glimpse of what many black people experience day in and day out. We can't begin to comprehend what it is like for those that are black and we don't begin to comprehend our white privilege.

I know most of this discussion is on other sites and I am just saying this is what we are doing this evening.
