I have a friend that is likely moving onto our property. He is asking for advice often as his life unravels and he does want to study scripture regularly with me here while in the mean time he moves through the challenges of what could be a divorce.
Please feel free to share advice and experiences or even resources with close discipleship and helping people find reconciliation with their spouse if possible.
Thank you.

Agreed. I would also like to add that set clear boundaries too. 3am discussions are detrimental when you have to go to work too.RZehr wrote:Remember that you are doing it for Christ, not the person.

Re: Close Discipleship
Another question that I believe needs to be asked, “Do you believe your friend is a committed Christian?” I would have to confess, I probably learned more from mistakes but as older, wiser Christian friends would tell me as I tried being a Chaplain at a volunteer Fire Department, “You cannot Disciple a non Christian/Unbeliever.”steve-in-kville wrote:Is he looking for counsel or just someone to talk to?

He is a professing believer.DrWojo wrote:Another question that I believe needs to be asked, “Do you believe your friend is a committed Christian?” I would have to confess, I probably learned more from mistakes but as older, wiser Christian friends would tell me as I tried being a Chaplain at a volunteer Fire Department, “You cannot Disciple a non Christian/Unbeliever.”steve-in-kville wrote:Is he looking for counsel or just someone to talk to?
He distinctly asks, "can I have your advice about.."
He has made it clear he wants counsel and obviously having a friend to talk to is nice when one is going through a tough time.

Re: Close Discipleship
I’m really glad you are doing this. When most men go through a divorce, they really have nobody to be close to them at all.Wade wrote:He is a professing believer.DrWojo wrote:Another question that I believe needs to be asked, “Do you believe your friend is a committed Christian?” I would have to confess, I probably learned more from mistakes but as older, wiser Christian friends would tell me as I tried being a Chaplain at a volunteer Fire Department, “You cannot Disciple a non Christian/Unbeliever.”steve-in-kville wrote:Is he looking for counsel or just someone to talk to?

1st thought: if an unbelieving spouse wants to depart, let them go - don't even try to stop them.Wade wrote:I have a friend that is likely moving onto our property. 2nd: Pray frequently. Without prayer, nothing else matters, does it ?
All in all, always, trust and keep trusting the Heavenly Father to accomplish salvation (healing, restoration, life, ) ,
as He Knows Best, and He is a Strong Fortress.... He is ABLE....
Whoever keeps their mind stayed upon Christ, the same is well-guarded (by God) and kept in perfect peace.
