How do you feel about another Jan 6 in 2029, if Trump wins this year?
If the earth lasts that long, I think we get another Jan 6th in 2029 no matter who wins this year.
I disagree. I think Trump is unique.
.....
The only reason that 1/6 happened was Trump.
You have got to be a lot of fun at parties.

You have family in Chile, right? Do they have a July 4th down there?

Oh, so you are making a joke then? Got it.

But actually in Chile they don't have July 4th. If we are going to be semantic about it, what they have instead is el 4 de Julio.

That assumes that:

1. Trump wins this year
2. Trump manages to change the law and run for a third term - something he has said he would like to do.
3. Trump loses in 2028, but does not acknowledge election results.
4. Trump manages to reverse some of the safeguards discussed in this thread.
5. Trump, age 83, manages to motivate people to march down to the capital and stop the voting process.

I don't know how likely that is.

I do think Trump would continue to agitate for more centralized power for the President - "I can do whatever I want to". I've never seen another President who would do this kind of thing once. He has shown his character. I don't think his character has changed.
Really.....do people actually believe the crazy conspiracy theory, that Trump would run a third term?
I think the highlighted phrase above shows that I doubted that would happen.

There is a lot of things that the government does I disagree with and have no confidence in. But I still have some element of faith in the government that no president would get away with serving a third term.
Grace wrote: Fri Sep 13, 2024 8:36 pmAnd yet another thread turns into a "Trash Trump" thread based on hypotheticals.
Hard to discuss January 6th without discussing Trump. In fact, it's a central point of his campaign speeches. He doesn't seem to express regret for anything that happened, he is now calling these people patriots. RZehr asked me a question - I don't think Trump has any respect for the rule of law, I think he will do what he thinks he can get away with, I doubt that he could run for a third term.

Sometimes I wonder if he sees Vance as his successor, though. That could change some dynamics. But I doubt it, he hasn't shown a lot of generativity so far.
