This thread is for listing common practices in contemporary Christianity, broadly speaking, which are not explicitly taught in scripture. List any that come to mind, and discuss.
Limit the discussion to practices, not theology/beliefs.

Judging by how it is advocated, I would assume so.

I think I have to disagree with this one. How else does one explain all the discussions between Jesus and the Pharisees? They were debating the meaning of scriptures. I also think it’s been established that it was Jewish tradition to debate the scriptures. I don’t think it was ever meant to be some passive acquiescence.
Debate and discussion is how we grow as a society. I think the Bible gives examples of that, as in the book of Job. His friends were giving reasons why he fell upon misfortune using commonly accepted thinking at the time. Job’s understanding was very much a new idea.

Pilgrimages. Though my memory may not be correct in this.
Re daily Bible reading- Here was me thinking that all of those Scripture verses that urge knowing God’s Word implicitly promote daily Bible reading so we can learn that Word. If not reading then listening to another read it aloud.

I considered editing it to arguing after the fact and didn’t… either way, classical debating is a far cry from what we do here.Sliceitup wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 10:38 amI think I have to disagree with this one.
