Falco Underhill wrote: ↑Sat Jun 26, 2021 6:51 pm This thread is for continuing the conversation we were having without being sidetracked by the Beth Moore issue.

The topic of this thread is Hegelian Dialectic & CRT in the Church, not Beth Moore.

Okay, let's see how this goes. 8-)
Falco,
Starting with Page 1 of your topic, how do you think it’s going?
Well, no one has outright called me a conspiracy theorist (yet) so just peachy, I guess.
i’ve learned a lot, in addition to posting members here, like Honduras Keiser, i’ve sought out+viewed several opinion videos, Thomas Sowell, Voddie Baucham, Dr Scott Hahn - young laymen like Doc Rich, Ty Smith, and others. They aren’t difficult to locate.
Still, i’m a beginner, scratching the surface.

It’s important for the public to understand, typical gov school union “educators” don’t believe they need to bother with “old stuff” like history. They seek to agree with+affirm one another, that’s good enough. Not just good enough - “BEST.”

i appreciate the candor shared here. ‘cause, everyone needs to know how it is. not speculation. from the horses’ mouths.
it’s hard to beat personal testimony.

If i were asked about Marxism, i think i would suggest starting with this video:

Thomas Sowell: Common Sense in a Senseless World - Full Video / 57min

Thomas Sowell began as a Marxist, he describes his fact-based, evidence-based journey away from it. He’s a pragmatist.
i’m not sure of the date of this recording. He’s now in his 90’s. God bless him.

He’s a solid academic with an approachable gift of ability to communicate to laypersons.

What do you think, Falco?

I’m really not interested in watching a 57 minute video. I want the 3 sentence version.

How many hours have you spent watching the Jan 6 committee hearings? The same hearings that you had this to say about those not taking it as seriously as you think they should.
Sliceitup wrote: ↑Fri Jun 17, 2022 1:30 am In reference to a previous comment about the wisdoms of withholding judgement, I would submit that there are many here, including that commenter, who are not merely withholding judgement, but intentionally remaining ignorant.

To withhold judgement you need to actually be ingesting the information that is to be judged. These people aren’t doing that. They say they will wait to hear both sides. But they aren’t even listening to this side. They have no intention to ever listen to it. There will alway be a reason why they turn away.

They don’t want to hear about the Vice President who was only 40 feet away from a mob that wanted to kill him. They don’t want to hear how he prayed with his team that morning. They don’t want to hear that the President yelled at the VP that he is a wimp and a pussy.

They’re not withholding judgement. They don’t even have anything to judge.

I have no problem with people not watching the hearings. What annoys me is people who come on here to tell about all the ways the hearing is wrong and pointless, without ever bothering to listen to it.

I can’t quite see how requesting an abbreviated description is close to the behavior I accused others of doing. I want to know, and I’m willing to listen. I abhor watching videos, and almost never do so. A live proceeding, like the hearing, is one of the few times where I will watch something rather than find a written version.

I think it's fair to start with a specific definition of a topic as broad as Marxism, which has taken many forms as it is applied to different situations. Some Marxists, like Richard Wolff for example, narrow it down to only apply to the value added to raw materials by laborers. No seizing property or means of production, no international alliances, they have no interest in destruction of capitalism, rather it's reformation into an economic engine that sustains workers over generations.

you seemed to direct your question to Falco, i’m also interested in his response. my post was intended to be more general, not directed to you in particular, also with interest in Falco’s thoughts. (i appreciate your response.)

for a 3 sentence version, i would google/wiki, probably britannica.
i’ve enjoyed digging deeper on forum over months with Falco and others who know more. some present are (probably scholars) but this is not discussed. if i were uncertain about any member here i would probably presume more/better informed than not.

i’ve been over-watching videos during hot weather, plus, i’m usually with my busy family at this time of year, i’m passing time in ways i’d prefer not to be.

i much prefer transcripts. when i first viewed the Thomas Sowell video above, i tried to find a transcript, no luck. he’s written several books, i have not read. it can be frustrating to have only spoken words. evidently, there is a service/software that can be purchased that will transcribe audio to text, but i don’t know much about it. i think it’s costly.

i think of the longer videos like college lectures. i set aside time, and listen. i may break them up into 2-3 sections.

the members, including Falco, who have shared about their indifference to listening to the Jan 6 hearings have given ample reason why not; it’s not dedication to ignorance, it’s not stubborness, it’s not partisan stonewalling. it’s informed choice.

Exactly my thoughts on the NBC “Sins of the Amish” “documentary”.

It just seemed strange to me that you would watch hours of hearings that seem to bolster your views about Trump but you don't want to watch a 57 minute video that might be informative on another big issue of our day.
