I think we're splitting hairs here, but wouldn't you agree that being led to follow Satan, whomever might be doing the leading, is to be led into deception- i.e. "deceived"?
Following Satan results in eternal consequences, and trades temporary earthly pleasures for eternity. The Scripture says clearly though that Adam was not deceived.
Yes, you're right. Men will do things they know absolutely are wrong at the behest of the right woman.

And, vice versa. :(

Sometimes we delay our obedience because we think we need to know every detail before we take a single step. Don’t get caught in that trap. Go forth in sanctified common sense and let God guide you along the way.
~David Guzik

"...sanctified common sense..." is it just my imagination, or has that become a rare virtue?

I'm not sure there is such a thing as 'sanctified common sense'.

I agree that we need to move forward as God leads without knowing all the details before we obey but I also think we can be ignoring the Spirit's leadings by going ahead based on our human reasonings that can be flawed. Do we consult the Holy Spirit in the way that we should go and wait for answers or a conviction of what to do ? Or do we just take for granted that because the Holy Spirit lives in us, what pops into our head and seems right is 'sanctified common sense' and act on that ?

I think what is a 'rare virtue' may be that most Christians don't have a close relationship with the Holy Spirit to allow Him to be their guide. I can't say I have that kind of relationship that is as sensitive to His guidance as I need to have. The flesh is always ready to take the upper hand and we are warned to not give it life. Often pride, our ego, gets in the way of listening and obeying the Spirit's leadings. He will only put up with this so long as we grieve Him by ignoring Him and His fire can be quenched in us. If we determine we don't really need Him, then He won't push His way into our thoughts. That is the sign of a carnal Christian or it could be that the professing Christian has not been born again.

I don't think "sanctified common sense" would involve going with whatever pops in our head. Nor does it involve, as in the OT, "they did what was right in their own eyes." Those 2 ways are how too many "Christians'" decisions are made now.
If there is such a thing as "sanctified common sense" it would be informed by, (not necessarily in order) a familiarity with the written Word, a relationship with the Living Word, and a sensitivity and openness to the teaching of the Holy Spirit.
Looking at the John 14 passage, it seems like the Holy Spirit's work also involves teaching us truth and convicting us of bad choices.
If we just expect guidance but not being taught truth, then yes, we are unlikely to develop "sanctified common sense".
