i was so hoping younger sibs would fill in as active members left for school, work, marriage. i guess many things happened, including changing technology, younger sibs didn’t happen. MD began as a teen experiment. By the time i registered, it was mixed, with more elders around. Some here were original.
The younger siblings simply spend their time scrolling TikTok, Instagram, etc. - such is the end result of embracing technology.

i’m pretty sure dedicated prayers will be needed for Pope Leo XIV and the Catholic Church.
For many, his words will be an answer to prayer.

The world may be about to witness and experience wrath on a scale not witnessed in recent times.
i pray i’m wrong.

I'm quite certain the Catholic church is sophisticated enough to navigate the political waters of 2025 such as they are. They have been doing so successfully for over 2 millennia and have an institutional memory that goes back to St. Augustine and before. By comparison, secular political leaders today are newborn babes.

All descriptions corruption and evil were long established before Jesus arrived on earth. It’s disheartening how little has changed.
Prayers were important and remain so. i pray for leaders, esp for God to guide and protect them, whether they are Christian or not.
i believe many value prayers.

All Christians are under attack in varying ways. Jesus warned this would be the case on earth.

This topic isn’t an attempt to coerce prayers from uninterested parties.

Someone asked me to listen to this. I started listening and immediately thought it was A.I. I'm 100% sure it is A.I. I do wonder if it is partially accurate at all, or if it is a conglomeration of original and accurate information.

Has any of our Catholic or otherwise posters here heard of such a recording or talk?

I think, just thinking on my own, that someone has pasted audio clips from the past of the current Pope.
Without passing judgments on the content, even if I agree, I think pasting a picture of the Pope onto old audio is misleading.

I would simply suggest we allow time to have its course. Pope Leo will speak on issues formally in his role, and let those statements represent him.

The audio also sounds edited, although maybe they just removed silence. I really wish people wouldn't do this - it's hard to tell if it's not AI generated, either.

Follow up to P.8 / May 18:

The Christian Post / “Catholic bishops sue over law forcing priests to violate the seal of confession”
https://www.christianpost.com/news/wash ... l-law.html
.. The complaint mentions how priests are bound by the Catholic Church's Code of Canon Law to keep all information they receive from penitents during the sacrament of confession confidential.

The Code of Canon Law states, "The sacramental seal is inviolable; therefore it is absolutely forbidden for a confessor to betray in any way a penitent in words or in any manner and for any reason." A provision in the Code of Canon Law authorizes the excommunication of any priest who "directly violates the sacramental seal."

"The Hobson's choice to which Senate Bill 5375 puts Roman Catholic priests is a blatant intrusion into the free exercise of the Roman Catholic faith in violation of the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and Article I, Section 11 of the Washington Constitution," the lawsuit states.

The complaint seeks a ruling declaring that Senate Bill 5375 is an unconstitutional violation of the aforementioned provisions of the state and U.S. constitutions and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The plaintiffs also ask a federal judge to prevent state officials from enforcing the law and award costs and attorneys' fees.

While the complaint noted that the leaders of all three dioceses of Washington have assured Catholics in the state that priests are "committed to keeping the seal of confession — even to the point of going to jail," the lawsuit still expresses concern that the new law "risks chilling the religious exercise of penitents."

According to the complaint, "Knowing that the inviolability of the sacramental seal is threatened by a temporal legal obligation to report suspected abuse or neglect learned in the confessional, penitents may refuse to confess all their sins in confession or refuse to seek the sacrament of confession at all. Under either circumstance, the penitent will remain separated from Christ's Church and from God, risking their eternal damnation to Hell."

Thursday's lawsuit is not the first time Senate Bill 5375 has faced legal scrutiny since its passage. ..

Very difficult matter, i prefer to avoid litigation, but i’m thankful for the option when unavoidable.

[i hope no one will misuse this matter, the Seal of Confession, to accuse others of lack of concern for victims.]

i’m not Catholic, i want to be respectful of others’ beliefs. Sin is not of God, no matter denomination.
My family is in this archdiocese. i often wonder how stressful it must be in the Seattle location.

“Chicago's Pope Leo celebration sold out quickly — drawing second market frenzy”
https://www.fox32chicago.com/news/chica ... ket-frenzy
The Brief
Tickets for the Chicago Archdiocese’s celebration of Pope Leo XIV at Rate Field on June 14 sold out quickly on Friday.

Hundreds of tickets purchased for $5 were being resold on sites like StubHub for hundreds of dollars or more.

The event will feature a video presentation about the Pope’s Chicago roots, speakers from Cardinal Robert Prevost’s time in the city, and a recorded greeting from the Pope himself.

i’m sorry to read about (ticket scalpers) for this event.

i shared in good faith, not thinking of AI. not thinking of ill will. or manipulation. the source looked ok.
(to me) his voice sounded authentic while “heavy” as one who feels called to share Truth, while knowing not all will be willing to listen. and being sad about knowing.

i’m happy to see questions. everything must be questioned these days! i’m trying to become more cognizant as i go along.

i’d be happy if disclaimers were required when AI, etc., are used.

The fact that that YouTube video uses voice from the time Robert Prevost was not Pope, mixed with a picture of him in the garb of Pope Leo is in itself IMHO deliberately misleading. Regarding if he said these words, he did NOT say them in the role of Pope as any sort of official position of the entire RCC, hence mixing that picture, audio, and referencing it as “Leo says…” is wrong.

It is no different than finding audio of a president 10 years ago and matching it with a picture of his as President. There is nothing wrong with saying”so and so said this 10 years ago, perhaps his position is still the same”. But the presentation should be honest and clear IMHO.
