Openness and obedience to God's word, determination to put it to practice even if it's not the way I would do it.joshuabgood wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:55 amDoes directionality mean coming over to your viewpoints? Demonstrating things like love, joy, peace, holiness, etc. Or how do you adjudicate "direction?"barnhart wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 7:15 am I agree with Ernie and Neto.
One category I might add to Ernie's list is directionality. I can feel close to someone who's belief and practice might be quite different from mine depending on which direction they are turned any conversely those very close in practice but who are turned away feel distant.

Oh no I messed up this joke. I guess I should've said they are no longer an Anabaotist if they only brought Chinese steamed buns to the church potluck once.Praxis+Theodicy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:36 am Also, I'll say that I would consider someone to not be "Anabaotist" if they brought Chinese steamed buns to the church potluck.
Sorry, JayP. I couldn't pass up the opportunity, and if I resisted, Ohio Jones would've come in and said it anyway.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

I would be very wary of setting criteria that basically mean identifying neurodivergent individuals as having a “spiritual problem”.joshuabgood wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:57 am I would add to Ernie's list...an inability to get along with others, or in honor prefer them. Divisiveness, quarreling, etc...

I don't think neurodivergence is a problem. I mean people who aren't able to follow the second greatest commandment.JohnH wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 10:12 amI would be very wary of setting criteria that basically mean identifying neurodivergent individuals as having a “spiritual problem”.joshuabgood wrote: ↑Tue Jan 06, 2026 9:57 am I would add to Ernie's list...an inability to get along with others, or in honor prefer them. To me, historical Anabaptism has a lot to do with the things mentioned in this post:

And really, the best way to understand historical Anabaptism is to look at the early Anabaptists. They were neither modern plain Anabaptists nor modern MC-USA Mennonites. If we dive into that more deeply, we have a richer and more complex conversation.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.
