Isn’t it interesting how Jesus blessed Thomas with the most extraordinary gift of all - yet with a reprimand?!

These extraordinary, even supernatural accounts, are what keeps scriptures LIVING through time.
Improbable “impossible” Truth.

Thomas may be my fav disciple. So real. So human. So silly. :) So loved.

(i believe) a theme that repeats throughout scriptures is the vast importance of faith, belief, submission, obedience
without “reason”.
I think that Mary and Joseph’s amazement at events doesn’t show unbelief. Just that they were human and that the revelations they had received certainly didn’t explain how it would all work and what they exactly meant.

Kind of like the disciples' memory loss to Jesus' foretold death and resurrection. :?

o.yes. initial shock and confusion can hardly be escaped. fear. terror. then acceptance and submission.

i suppose, for me, the shock of reading Hosea (for years) my disbelief at what i was reading, i thought surely i was misunderstanding, what man would tolerate as he did?! But he put God first, he followed God’s instructions without fail. i imagine what “everyone” was telling him, probably laughing at him, AND, no law would force him to remain .. monumental.

i was so embarrassed i couldn’t read this small book. i felt i couldn’t be understanding what i was reading.

Then i registered on MD. In time, Knight assured me i was reading ok.
Well. If there was one thing i knew about Knight, i knew he could read. and write. :)

The more scriptures are read, the more is revealed. Like no other.
The Word is divine. Part of God’s divinity is found in scriptures. “Enough” to overwhelm our small capacity brains.

To me, the Magnificat is one example that shows Mary did not grasp the mission of Jesus.

It points to someone who would liberate Israel from its foreign military occupation. That's not what happened, and it is not what Jesus was called to.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Where does she say anything about liberation from foreign occupation? :?:

The part about bringing the mighty down from their thrones could have been understood as anti-Roman.

Is Bootstrap assuming that Mary is speaking of Christ in verses in this passage?
She is speaking of God the Father-therefore ascribing “Jesus” as the One who has put down the mighty from their thrones is not correct- she was talking about God the Father as in the rest of the scriptures of the Magnificat-
Therefore it was not a misunderstanding of Jesus by Mary but a misunderstanding on our part if we assumed she was referring to God the Son-
It was inspired by Hannah’s prayer (1 Kings 2) with a prophetic reference that all generations would call her blessed.

In other words, it’s incorrect isn’t it to say she was assuming this to be about Christ and liberate Israel from its military occupation? Are there commentaries that really teach that’s what she meant?

I don't know what Boot has in mind but I feel very comfortable ascribing the action of God the father to Jesus.
