Where Mennonites and others connect

They’d have a lot more credibility with me if they didn’t immediately start off with misrepresenting assurance / hope of salvation.Rodney was born into the Old Order Stauffer Mennonite Church. Stauffer Mennonites view themselves as the one true church, believe you cannot know if you are saved (church membership is your best chance), and enforce a long list of extra-biblical rules, forbidding every thing from zippers to men's beards to electricity. Those who leave this group are handed over to the devil, and that's exactly what happened to Rodney's parents when his family left during his teen years.
Following this experience, Rodney continued to attend other types of Mennonite churches until he and his wife concluded they would need to fully leave in order to be spiritually fed and grow in their faith. He shares how, during this process, he came to understand the gospel of grace and learned to trust in Christ for his salvation—not himself, his church, or his works.

It is the mission of Berean Holiness to develop free, faith-based resources for those who are leaving hyper fundamentalism. If you would like to support believers leaving strict Mennonite churches and similar groups, you can give today at:
I think I get the point you're trying to make (that OO are not technically fundamentalist) - But the more recent definitions of fundamentalism, as a disposition rather than some beliefs (old definition of fundamentalism) suggests that many OO groups struggle with "fundamentalism" (In fact, lot's of current categories of people can be and do exhibit "fundamentalism")

They’d also have a lot more credibility if they didn’t refer to Old Orders as “hyper fundamentalist”, when they are pretty much the polar opposite of fundamentalism.
Well I believe this question has surfaced multiple times recently. I'll give it a shot one more time.the-real-steve wrote: ↑Tue Aug 05, 2025 12:18 pmNot sure.
