Its Thanksgiving week and its time to do a fun thread. Whether you came from a large family or currently have one (or both), feel free to post. What's a large family? Whatever you grew up considering large. Use your own discretion.

I have no real direction for this thread.

...Everyone remembers “that coat.” You know, the one that was worn for 7 years, by at least 4 children.

Yes. The howls of injustice when somebody is skipped.
And the regular howls when the food isn't being passed fast enough.

When I was growing up, the rule was that you should never have to ask for anything to be passed the first time around. Then after that, you were to say, "Please pass the ____, and help yourself." But my wife & I only had three surviving children, and what made for an even more pronounced difference, we had a very small "dining area" in our village house 8' X 8'), so also a very small table. No one had to pass anything, because it was all right there in reach. Now no one knows to pass the food around, and even when they do, no one knows which way it is supposed to be passed. (My wife grew up in a family of 3 children as well, so she doesn't know which way to pass things, either.)

Which is the correct way around? We were taught clockwise. Pass to the person on your left.

We tell our children that when they want something, they need to first say the persons name, and then the thing they want. Not, “Please pass the corn, John” but “John, please pass the corn”.
