Foul or offensive language?

We've most likely all been in a public or workplace environment where someone is using foul language. Maybe you have a tolerance for bad words, but draw the line when using the Lord's name in vain. Maybe you have a tough skin and just let it go. Hopefully no one here has a habitual "potty mouth." ;)

Vote and discuss as needed.

What does "just roll with it" mean in this context?

Everything from ignore it to let them know they need to be careful around my kids to literally telling them to "shut up for a minute." I've done all 3.

OK. I don't think that confrontations really help. Quiet example, and if the person is a friend, I think that posing a question at the right time can be thought provoking for the perpetrator.

Had a client one time whose brain shut off when he started swearing. Or his brain shut off when he got stressed out and then he'd start swearing. Whatever. But the only way to get him to stop was to tell him to be quiet and listen for once.

I'm not generally bothered by swearing, I was in the Navy and I've heard much worse, but I have requested before that people not use the Lord's name in vain with people I know. (generally it doesn't fix anything)

I have found that my son picks up some interesting verbiage from school which mostly only my wife and I find objectionable.

My goodness (only God is good)
dern (likely a substitution for worse)
goodness gracious (same thing as first)

I've had people apologize to me for their language which mildly amuses me as I didn't know I put off that churchy sort of vibe. My wife gets it regularly but that makes sense.

I think there are a lot of variables. If there are women and children around would be one of them...

People who swear fluently are a big turn off to me.
