What is the imperative to tolerate moustaches?

In my opinion, the imperative is faithfulness to biblical teachings about masculinity and creation principles. The argument from creation in 1 Cor. 11 that Paul makes also applies to men's facial hair. It is another thing that nature teaches us.

I keep my ear and nose hair neatly trimmed as befits a Christian appearance.

I keep them untrimmed to maintain my manly facial hair as a Christian appearance ought to look.
