Gambling
Re: Gambling
I grew up in a pretty conservative church environment too, and honestly, even raffles made me uneasy as a kid. My parents always taught me that giving should come with no strings attached, and I’ve tried to stick to that, even when fundraisers try to make it fun with prizes. I did try buying a lottery ticket once on a lark, but honestly just felt weird about it and never bothered again.

out there for those just curious or looking to try the games risk-free. Probably useful for folks who want to test the waters without making any financial commitment.

Re: Gambling
I am hardly endorsing gambling. As I said earlier, it is truly described in e onomics text oops as a tax on the poor.
But in terms of understanding the enemy, no I do not think greed the primary otivator of people gambling.
Rather, it is the “rush” and excitement that drives them. If it was greed, they would take their winnings and run.
I confess I find the game theory of some gambling games interesting, but equally interesting if wagering matchsticks as money.
I am sure that is a minority position.
In the end, any Christian must conclude that it does so much more evil than good that it should have no place in our lives.

Re: Gambling
I have a coworker that frequents the local VFW on the weekends. He's got his hands in small games of chance, sports betting, plus some other stuff. It is safe to say he breaks even.

The Catholic church classically taught that this was speculation, one of the 3 financial sins. (The other 2 are usury and debasement.)JayP wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 8:54 pm I am hardly endorsing gambling. As I said earlier, it is truly described in e onomics text oops as a tax on the poor.

I love how we keep a bot on board just as a pet. OJ faithfully follows it around with the scooper just to keep our yard clean. Good job all around, guys.Tuvy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 24, 2025 5:17 pm I grew up in a pretty conservative church environment too, and honestly, even raffles made me uneasy as a kid.
