Buildings Plain Anabaptists Use for Church Endeavors
Re: Buildings Plain Anabaptists Use for Church Endeavors
Judas M, you might consider selling that organ. I know of a church that paid over a million dollars for a used one.

I cannot believe that the pipe organ, while seemingly playable, is actually in fine order. I have experience with them and one in a chuch that had its congregation “winding down” rarely can keep proper care. Also, they are so increasingly not used in Novus Ordo masses I cannot believe it got the care needed. IF you truly have no use for it,I would encourage looking to sell it whole or in parts.
No offense, but is not this congregation a classic example of how can questions about Keystone be answered. They do not have the consistent origins, practices, make up……the congregations vary so much, I cannot see how anything about Keystone is remotely predictable.

Ours are actually quite predictable. In the years since I have been involved, there is remarkable absence of “shift.” Virtually all of our congregations left the LMC at about the same time, or have come from ones that have. So, we are actually fairly consistent. As a “traveling “ winter Bible school teacher, there is remarkably little difference between them. But, than again, I have actually been to many of these churches. Possibly most of them.JayP wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2026 10:36 pm I cannot believe that the pipe organ, while seemingly playable, is actually in fine order. As to the organ, it is marginally playable. Some keys don’t work, and a manual is inoperative. Clearly, you are correct in that it has not seen properly maintenance. Maybe we will sell it someday, but we have bigger fish to fry.
We even managed to remove the “special “ sink in the saceresty.

The market is flooded, with the RCC closing half of their church buildings. This one is actually in poor shape.
Incidentally our pastor is into historic preservation. I am the opposite end of the spectrum.

Any chance you're referring to that church in Baltimore that bought a used organ for $1.8MM? If I understand correctly, the seller was so happy with the price of the organ he included a school building, a rectory, and maybe about an acre of real estate in the deal for free.

Don’t forget the convent as well.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2026 12:54 amAny chance you're referring to that church in Baltimore that bought a used organ for $1.8MM? This is not a really good organ, even when it was new. It has like 6 manuals, one of which does not seem to work. The blower is in the basement. I can’t conceive of anyone being interested. Now if it was a Hammond tone wheel organ with a Leslie speaker, I would have black churches lining up around the block.

I wonder how many folks know why you did not want to use the special sink.
Are ther stained glass windows? Do not just chuck them if you remove them. Regardless if there is money to be made, there are folks that would love to have them
I am not criticizing, just analyzing and trying to understand. My perception is that folks from LMC that were “Keystone” minded may align in theory, but do not must fall across a wide spectrum in terms of practices ( from dress to things like radio and tv). I can understand how like minded folks can START together but the road takes a lot of twists and turns. FWIIW, even before we joined a Mennonite setting our family did not have TV. I would have to think issues like “I DO not want my kids exposed to kids that watch TV” or cell phone usage, etc. has to be even harder to handle in such settings than the problems so called conservative Mennonite churches are dealing with.
I wish the best, but I do not see how a standard for say dress only applying to the ministry becomes (pardon the humor) no different than the funny hat the Pope wears.

I would avoid using it and have it removed out of respect for Catholics who would probably feel negatively to see it put into profane use.
I have often brought up the same thing, as I don't think Christian clergy should don liturgical garments, and Anabaptists claim to not do such. Yet we see things such as (in the old Mennonite church) minister's wives still wearing aprons to church services as recently the 1950s. (It has always amused me that the Eastern split came too late for this aspect of plain dress to be preserved, although I am sure many Eastern women are quite grateful they don't have to run around in a superfluous apron all day.)I wish the best, but I do not see how a standard for say dress only applying to the ministry becomes (pardon the humor) no different than the funny hat the Pope wears.
In practice, the clergy almost always dress more plainly than the laity and the laity expect it to be so. Plain suits, a minister's wife still wearing a cape dress, etc. always lasts longer than everyone else. In CMC/Rosedale, there was an expectation that a minister's wife would still wear a covering long after it was clearly no longer a requirement for anyone else or was left up to individual congregations to choose.
In my own circles, it is more common for a minister or deacon to wear a suit jacket but is certainly not required. I remember feeling a sense of relief when I attended a service in Georgia and the preacher wore khaki pants and a dark coloured shirt.

Maybe there'd be a possibility of forming a separate organ-ization to restore and maintain it.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2026 12:46 pmDon’t forget the convent as well.ken_sylvania wrote: ↑Thu May 21, 2026 12:54 amAny chance you're referring to that church in Baltimore that bought a used organ for $1.8MM?
