That would be my concern. As parents, my wife and I, severely restrict the use of devices, access to internet, etc. for similar reasons. Strangely enough, most of our country's tech elites have decided the same thing.HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 12:21 pm That would be my concern. That would make you more conservative than most of the moderate conservatives at this point. The coming watersheds over smartphone and internet use will be interesting. I think large mass of moderate conservatives are going to be blindsided when they realize what they've done.HondurasKeiser wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 12:21 pmThat would be my concern. Re: Perspectives on Anabaptist Perspectives
Just read a post by Freddie deBoer that seems to jive with what we’re saying here:
There is a private life; there is a private self; there are private relationships. All are deeper, richer, and more indelible than their public counterparts. It was to operate in that space that you were born. The pursuit of rare but intense relationships, of real connection beyond the digital ephemera, is a beautiful agenda, and as the Zoomers age up we are watching in real time as a generation takes the world without ever having imagined such a thing. Absolutely every technology around you wants you to pursue the greatest number of meaningless, transactional relationships, from which you demand everything and into which you invest nothing. This is what capital rewards. And I’m telling you that you should resist. Stay human. Resist.

My daughter who teaches in a public middle school has apparently seen none of this, she thinks it is likely a spoof to get a rise out of the adults. Like none of us has ever done this?steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:49 amI just found out this morning that its a "thing" for high school girls to dress up and act like a cat. And the schools can't do anything about it... yet. Apparently last school term it really gained traction in some high schools.nett wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:47 amMy daughter's story from school was a paper yearbook, no internet access was needed, and texting selfies (or even more inappropriate things) is still very much a thing on flip phones.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 11:40 am If the phone doesn't have internet access, the majority of the reasons mentioned are pointless now. See why I'm asking for clarification?
There seems to be a principle issue with photography, but I wouldn't say I have it figured out yet.

Apparently its something many of our local high schools are dealing with. Its like a gender... they identify as cats.Judas Maccabeus wrote: ↑Sat Aug 27, 2022 10:21 pmMy daughter who teaches in a public middle school has apparently seen none of this, she thinks it is likely a spoof to get a rise out of the adults. Although I haven't seen her for quite a few years, I know someone who is well past HS age, and has legally changed her name to a "cat name". She is seriously messed up over this.steve-in-kville wrote: ↑Mon Aug 29, 2022 5:51 amApparently its something many of our local high schools are dealing with. Re: Perspectives on Anabaptist Perspectives
Its a misguided attempt to be unique and they want to belong to something. Transgenderism gives you a ready made community. Cat person or someone identifying as a demicat, demi-cat, mewgender or something like that is almost like a rebellion and is part of the reason the secular community is having some misgivings over the transgender ideology.
