That's a well known psychological phenomenon. "Don't think of an Elephant" is a famous psychological experiment which always has the opposite effect. Also related is the "Streisand Effect" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Streisand_effect

Sooo... was she sunbathing or something when the photo was taken? Not sure I follow what the big deal was...
Does it say something about you that your mind immediately went there?
I mean, you have hinted a number of times recently that if a preacher preaches about a certain thing regularly it might reveal something about his routine thoughts....
For the record, it didn't immediately go there. I figured there must have been something really embarrassing she didn't want people to see. But thanks for checking...
(For the record... I've heard this woman's name, but I'd have to google her to see who she really is)

This heinous crime against a little girl garnered a lot of press, locally. And I think much of the talk was discussion on the facts presented in the newspapers. But even that wasn't a sin, as much of what was being discussed, was based on truth. I have to wonder if threatening people who talked about the situation, was just a tactic to scare people into silence. I wasn't real close to the situation, but the story sure garnered a lot of talk here in Lancaster County at the time.
If you don't mind, how long ago was this?
2012. I attempted to send you a PM, but it doesn't seem to be going through.

It’s kind of funny. For those of us from worldly backgrounds, well, we tend to know who Barbara Streisand is. And we would just assume a famous Hollywood (or Malibu) celebrity would want lots of privacy.

It is probably also an age thing. She is kind of a has-been now at age 79 and I doubt my own kids have ever heard of her either.

They want it both ways, according to their immediate desires. Egos+celebrity, and, Egos+privacy.
They also thrive on, “no publicity is bad publicity.”
BS considers herself quite the prima donna. Plenty of idol worshippers have contributed to her self-perception.

Presumably, Steve is older than your children.
I'm actually 16 posing as a burned out mid-40-ish married man with adult adult children and 5 y/o twins (and a bunch in between). But don't tell anyone
I voted for the second option. I believe there is a time and a place for everything. I believe in decency. But if the church doesn't address these things, someone else will, and IS.
CA churches tend to have a pre-WWII mindset, when sexual matters were considered private and people spoke in euphemisms. They also still largely default to a perpetrator-centric mindset in matters of sexual abuse.
So, yes, I think the church ought to engage the culture by preaching the truth about its excesses and dealing with these matters forthrightly.
But I really don't think CA churches are in a position to do so.
I want to teach my kids the facts of life. Nobody else gets to do that if I can help it. I decided that a long time ago when I was young and attended a special men's meeting at church to discuss male sexual issues and how to overcome them. It was well-intentioned, but children should be hearing from their parents on those issues, not from other adults who may or may not have had sexual temptations or problems that other people don't need to know the details of.
