So we can be self-righteous with memes, and we can be self-righteous about the self-righteous memes and we can be self-righteous about the self-righteousness of calling out self-righteous memes......that's about where I'm at by now. Lord, help us. We're like a bunch of ants on top of an anthill that just got kicked and to make matters worse, the sun is hot and the ants are masked.

You can either laugh or cry or both, but definitely the most dangerous is to get bitter and/or cynical when things get ignored that have the potential to destroy souls. I get what you are saying, and yes; the bar is low.
(If you meme it, please PM it to me. This is my round-about way of seeing it now that you went private.)
I think the simplicity is why I can't do it. I need a paragraph or two. The simplicity though is also the power of the meme format I think. Along with the funny pictures. I literally laugh out loud at times.
For the record, I don't care for personal put-downs or self-righteousness. I haven't really experienced DKCM that way, and I am a Conservative Mennonite though I hold a fair degree of ideas similar to the folks over there.
Generally positive discourse on the internet is challenging...and behind the veil of anonymity even more challenging. I appreciate that *mostly* both here and there I know who people are in real life. I can find them if I want to talk further or "iron a few things out."

Perhaps something to think about is right wing memes, such as the one we’ve all seen comparing a face mask to a chain link fence, for example. It doesn’t do anything to promote good science or good respect for each other. It just portrays masks and mask wearers as those dumb, stupid people.
Satire certainly can be an effective tool to make a point, as can humor...when wielded carefully. Combined with visual imagery, they can become a very effective and creative communication tool. Frankly, I've enjoyed a number of the DKC memes, and found some very insightful. The problem for DKCM is that, in the long run, memes are not a constructive from of communication. They tend to amuse, critique, condemn, judge, and yes...even mock sometimes. They're better at tearing down and exposing hypocrisy than building up and encouraging growth. Memes have got their place...but they need to be a part of a balanced diet...and unfortunately at DCKM they are all that's on the menu.

This is true. A lot of memes are fallacious, illogical, and possibly even may have a malicious intent. However they are often funny or sad or angering because there is SOME truth in them. But, this very same thing is true of MennoNet posts, except mine of course, which are always reasoned, logical, and dead-on accurate.

Me too. And footnotes. And graphs.

Yeah. Don't rub it in. At least some people seem to laugh at my footnotes and graphs.
