Its funny how perceptions on what is okay on a Sunday and what is not. I have a relative that avoids the turnpike on Sunday to avoid paying the toll.

That argument might have made some sense when you had to pay the toll to a live employee. Not so much these days with EZPass.
Actually it's a good idea to avoid the turnpike regardless of the day of the week, at least in PA where the toll is exorbitant. I make an exception occasionally to stop by Mike's place, he's worth it.

Did you know Mennonites don't have to pay to get on the Turnpike?

Neither do Mormons, do you think it has something to do with the fact they both start with the letter M? Like Money?mike wrote:ohio jones wrote:That argument might have made some sense when you had to pay the toll to a live employee. Not so much these days with EZPass.

Unless you're entering the PA turnpike from the OH turnpike or NJ turnpike. Even Mennonites have to pay at those locations. No exceptions, even if you got the EZPass from Everence or Anabaptist Financial.mike wrote:Did you know Mennonites don't have to pay to get on the Turnpike?

It's so quaint listening to you two complain about the measly little turpike tolls...

I know...it goes right with the complaining about housing prices. Lancaster seems so cheap to me everytime I see a house for sale. And my EZpass has fallen nearly exclusively into disuse after being a regular $100 or so per month drain.barnhart wrote:It's so quaint listening to you two complain about the measly little turpike tolls...

Like the definition of "liberal" it's all a matter of perspective. End to end on the Ohio Turnpike, 240 miles, is $13.25. Continuing onto the PA Turnpike for 240 miles costs $28.40 (and will go up 6% next year), more than the gas used by a moderately efficient car. Equivalent toll road mileage in IN and IL would be around $16.20, with good non-toll alternatives for parts of the route. So by comparison it does seem that PA engages in highway robbery.joshuabgood wrote:I know...it goes right with the complaining about housing prices. And of course NYC dwellers may be able to cover their transportation needs with MTA, Uber, and an occasional short term rental, none of which are possible at any cost in my neighborhood, rather than owning a car. But we do have cheap housing (though not the absolute cheapest in the region), with a median price 44% less than Lancaster Co. and only 21% that of Queens Co.

Re: On being liberal and our diversity (poll)
I am surprised that so many votes were cast for these items as signs of liberalism. Did these folks, who presumably would also find use of the internet a sign of liberalism, send their votes in by mail and a moderator input the votes?
As a former conservative Lutheran, none of these things would be a concern. However, I take a strong stand against television. I have not watched television in 30 years. Much of the content is immoral, false, or both.
