Hope is, also, a small breakaway from Eastern (Epmc). It is interesting to note that of the 5 LMC bishops that founded Eastern, 2 or 3 were involved in later splits. Note, I knew some of them and I am in no way taking a shot. It is more a commentary on Anabaptist Sickness than pointing fingers.
It is interesting to note that a view of Pilgrim varies based on WHEN the person you are speaking to was involved with Pilgrim folks. Talk to someone who knew them in say 1997 or 2005 and they see little difference from Eastern. I am not sure (and say not sure because I am not close to anyone today) that this is true today. The creation of Northeastn (from both Eastern and Pilgrim) seems to me closer to what Pilgrimwas when founded.
It is Terri le how time goes by and you forget (will blurs is more accurate)
Someone help me out. Eshbach (who was my bishop) and Isaac Sensenig died in Eastern. Sidney Went with Pilgrim and died there.
Bomberger founded Hope or MidAtlantic I thin when Eastern opted to eliminate the radio. Who is the fifth I am forgetting?
Wasn't Aaron Shank one of the original bishops? Later went with Pilgrim...
Just looked up his obituary. Became bishop in 1957 and died in 2003.

I think so. I wouldn't have remembered Sidney B. Gingerich as one of the five though. Might he have been ordained later?

Can't remember ever hearing that name either. Looks like he wasn't a bishop untill 1970.

I think Hope would have broken away from EPMC in the early 80's.
At first I thought this was incomplete, missing the reason for not actually breaking away at that time, as in "would have ... if ..." or "would have ... except ...". Then I remembered this thread.

The Mennonites would have had Steve long enough to corrupt his verb tenses, before he got away.
whats the reason hope didnt affiliate with pilgrim formally (altho in practical terms, hope and pilgrim cooperate on a great deal of things - if you go to a pilgrim event bible school etc you will see hope people there too.)?
I have heard, that Pilgrim had a "deal" with Eastern where they agreed not to accept wholesale intact Eastern congregations. So the Hope congregations had to strike off on their own.

Hope was established over 10 years before Pilgrim, so the question might be backwards.

well thats why I view many of the rumors I hear with skepticism... the above anecdote was told me very sincerely by a person from an unaffiliated church that is similar to hope and pilgrim.

In the past, Hope people did in fact frequent Pilgrim Bible School. However, Hope has since started their own bible school. I'm assuming most of them prolly use their own.
It's been a while since I frequented those circles. Things might have changed...

It probably still happens. Our Hope youth go to Mid-Atlantic and other Bible schools as well, in addition to our own. For some reason, ours is seen as a Bible school for the younger set, and by the time you are 20 or so, you're too old for it, so you go to some other Bible school if you want to go.
