For what it's worth, I chose "other" as my gender when I filled out my HR paperwork during the last year of my previous employer. The next closest option was "cisgendered male". I wasn't ready to go for that. I mean, I've been just male all my life, and I'm not ready to change that.

??? You're saying you are truly not cisgendered?Bootstrap wrote:For what it's worth, I chose "other" as my gender when I filled out my HR paperwork during the last year of my previous employer. The next closest option was "cisgendered male". I wasn't ready to go for that.

I'm just male. I have been all my life. My gender wasn't "assigned at birth", it is part of my DNA. My body knows what it is.ken_sylvania wrote:??? Whoa. That’s hate speech by some standards.Bootstrap wrote:I'm just male. I have been all my life. My gender wasn't "assigned at birth", it is part of my DNA. Interesting. So theoretically, if fostering a child with gender dysphoria, would one just avoid speaking into that?barnhart wrote:The poll question is about how one feels, not about actual persecution. This varies person to person. A couple in our church are foster parents. The training is quite extensive, at one point it became clear they would be required to sign a document about respecting the rights of foster children to choose their gender identity. The person leading the training was also a believer and she said the city just wants to know if commit to loving this child, if you do, then you should sign it. So they did and they have been fostering for several years. The agency truly appreciates them and respects them. It was a situation that could have gone a different direction if they had gone in with a different spirit.

As if children can have “gender dysphoria”. In reality this is just another form of child abuse. Children play dress up all the time; they do not become sexual perverts like adult transsexuals are.joshuabgood wrote:Interesting. By whose standards? I really don't expect to be persecuted for saying that kind of thing, I have never had anyone tell me it is hate speech. I have had people strongly disagree with me, or try to explain things to me like I was a kindergarten child who had never thought about these things.Josh wrote:Whoa. In modern America, I get the feeling that some people feel unsafe or in danger of persecution if someone else strongly disagrees with them or doesn't understand them. No matter what I think, there will be people who strongly disagree with me or don't understand me.

What happened to truth-telling as an Anabaptist distinctive?joshuabgood wrote:Interesting. It appears that folds for some in the face of being "woke", or more specifically, the desire to fit in with and be accepted by the world.HondurasKeiser wrote:What happened to truth-telling as an Anabaptist distinctive?

Re: Do you feel persecuted for your faith or culture in America?
I wouldn't say I've been persecuted. I have been bullied. People have said blasphemous things in front of me trying to get a rise. Others have shoved or spat or said mean things wanting me to fight back. It is interesting that some people view my easy-going, offense forgiving, non-confrontational, peaceful reactions as weakness or as some kind of religious show. While I will stand up to someone and tell them they are behaving wrongly, I do not resort to the same words, actions, or attitudes as others. I consider that my faithful duty as a Christ follower. My current employer is very much onboard with respecting religious values. I was afraid one time when I was called into court for jury selection that I would be forced to break the law by refusal to participate. I sent a short note to the judge asking to be released from selection due to faith conflicts and was let go without incident. I don't want to make a fuss, but I have to follow my convictions.
