Isn't that what I said?
You refer to PSA as a "fabricated" doctrine. If you are referring to the substituteionary aspects of the atonement, I would see them as completely Biblical. By His death and resurrection from the dead, Christ accomplished the full justification of those who believe in Him. Is this what you have an issue with?
I said that I am fine with a sacrificial view and am ok with some of the substitutionary view.

The fabricated part is when someone says that "God is a just God and cannot allow sin in his presence. He needs to punish sin. So since we couldn't stand in his presence, there needed to be someone to take our punishment. So God took out his wrath on Jesus as the consequences of sin."
As one German Baptist preacher once preached...
"Who killed Jesus?
Was it the Jews?
No, it was not the Jews.
Was it the Romans?
No, it was not the Romans?
Who was it?
IT WAS GOD WHO KILLED JESUS!"
That could only come from a suboridanationist view of the Trinity. No one killed Jesus, He laid down His life willingly.

Wherever did you hear that stuff. Only place I have heard anything like that was in highly reformed circles.

Which churches that are part of the Rosedale Network still practice head-covering for women, do not permit divorce and remarriage, do not permit jewelry, and believe/practice nonresistance?

I can say that, as of last year, Naumber Mennonite church in upstate NY holds to the 1963 Mennonite Confession of Faith. Their senior pastor stepped down about 1 year ago so I'm not sure how influential he was or what their governance structure might lead to as far as change, but last I knew, they were still pretty much within progressive-conservative sphere.
The exception to this would be jewelry. I am pretty sure people there mostly use wedding bands in marriage, and their might be very light use of jewelry (some small, barely noticeable necklaces or bracelets?) otherwise.
Also, I think it varies from family to family whether to use a headcovering for church gatherings or as a part of normal daily attire.

They are a big church (I'd call them a megachurch), and I'm sure a significant number of people there were not members, so i'm not sure about jewelry, but I do know that the headcovering diversity I mentioned is among the membership.

I went to Rosedale's church conference last year, but I didn't seek out people to ask if their church is plain or not. Ohio Jones would know much more.

Are there churches in the Rosedale Network who don't hold to nonresistance? That seemed like the outlier in the things you mentioned.

The Bible is very easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.

I've provided my input to Ernie by PM.

In some churches unfortunately there's a disconnect between the official teaching position of the church (or lack of teaching) and what many members believe.

The nonresistance piece felt like an outlier to me also. The Rosedale people I am acquainted with seem in some ways more solid/firm in their commitment to nonviolence than do some of the plainer strands, where affirmation of the second amendment and "law and order," an active interventionist military, etc - at times runs pretty strong.

Anabaptist Disciples of Christ
ADC is a "liberal" split off of Beachys, specifically over the issue of the radio (they're for it). They would fit the description of acculturating conservative Anabaptists, sometimes also called fundamental-conservative or progressive-conservative Anabaptists.

In any case, they aren't neo-evangelical Anabaptists - at least not yet.
Just in time for radio to go obsolete and get replaced by streaming.

Some new cars don't even have radios anymore, just car-play and phone integration. https://wapo.st/4leM8iD
Some churches are disallowing streaming media, for the same reasons they disallowed radios. (this would be some groups in the Old Order, Ultra-Conservative, and Intermediate-Conservative constituencies) Others are just keeping antiquated standards on technology that don't really address the temptations that youth and others are facing today.

Ernie wrote: ↑Sat Feb 03, 2018 9:26 pm This is a thread to discuss Fundamental-Conservative Mennonite Churches as categorized by Stephen Scott in his book, An Introduction to Older and Conservative Mennonite Groups.
I've titled this thread "Progressive Conservatives" since many people are confused by the term "Fundamental". Stephen Scott calls them Fundamental since they like to think of themselves as sticking with fundamental Biblical values and don't like to have extra-biblical standards.

This designation includes churches that are similar to Biblical Mennonite Alliance (BMA).
For those of you who are part of churches in the Progressive (Fundamental) Conservative constituency, what is your guess as to the average family size? (I'm thinking of families in which the parents are 40 and younger and who spent most of their adult years in this constituency)

Off the top of my head, I would guess 2-3 children but that category includes young couples who are just starting their families. For those over 40 who have mostly finished having children i would guess 4-5.
