I’m unaffiliated Mennonite on it, so I don’t have any limitations, but hypothetically, if you’re Holdeman or certain other groups, it’s more locked down, so I would assume they actually do care about it.
It's only locked down more for a few groups that requested it like Nationwide.

Holdemans are, in general, transitioning to being a "self-filtering" culture.
Every single group I’ve seen follows a general pattern on one stage moving on to the next.

No internet
#internet is Babylon#
Library internet with a brother observing
#making it hard to use is good#
Heavily filtered school internet for adult members.
#having to leave the house to use it is good
Whitelist on smartphones
#its necessary for work#
Will the app list ever end?
Filtered internet in homes with accountability reports to ministers or brothers appointed to it.
#i didn’t like having to maintain it, I could never use it when I needed it#
Justifiable YouTube use gets questionable watching guides to make sandwiches
Filtered internet accountable to someone
#the internet is a useful tool as long as we listen to the holy spirit#
Some social media starts to slip in
Accountability to spouse or someone
#Following this you hear things like we need to learn to swim#
Time wasting is not uncommon
At some point in here instagram, twitter, social media of all sorts

Every single group follows this pattern and justifies it as okay.

Where does MennoNet fit in the sequence?

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

Well my experience is more limited and that seems to be targeted given I’ve actually met a few and been to their churches.

Roughly

So does this seem to be a one way street or have any communities gone the other direction with a gradual reduction of technology overtime?

Furthermore given the change in tech since the industrial revolution, what will this pattern look like in 50 years? I'm guessing there could be many stages beyond acceptance of social media at that point?

2076 additions?:

Bio-metric Digital ID
#It makes doing paperwork so much more efficient
CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currencies) instead of Cash
#Cash is dirty and spreads germs
Internet connected pacemakers, diabetes monitors, health devices
#24/7 Live Health Monitoring!
Online AI based education for children
#Special Needs Teacher Shortage
Neuralink or OpenAI brain monitoring headset for non-intrusive brain computer interface
#Virtual World > Real World
Hand microchip for ID + financial transactions
#Mandatory to Buy or Sell

In my church affiliation, Internet always remained quite filtered but cellphones came in the back door. Due to lack of exposure to the Internet many people had little understanding they were the same thing.

less information on removal but its a common enough saying that people don't like giving up things. In my tiny experience I would say it only happens with a church split or I've seen restrictions on youth before.

As for what it might look like in 50 years, I don't know but I would estimate the new "Amish" are anti internet.

Thoughts on the holdemans essentially allowing all technology at this point? Its jarring to see conservative mennonites near me who allow smartphone access, they mindlessly scroll just like everyone else. Probably the “worldliest” act ive seen a plain person do.
