The Anabaptist perception towards snakes!

Post by the-real-steve »

The reptile kind, not the two-legged variety 8-)

I watch some of these Youtube channels where people own snakes and breed them for profit. Not my thing but I do enjoy looking for them in the back 40. We don't have anything too crazy around here. Occassional copperhead, maybe a rattler if I'd venture north.

My employer has a sizable pond that is used for fire suppression if need be. Lots of turtles and frogs and some pretty sizable water snakes. At home, I haven't seen much beyond garter snakes.

Vote and discuss.

I used to know a girl who aspired to be a herpetologist. Really fascinated by snakes and had a large question.

At some point she managed to meet Bindi Irwin.

God put enmity between snakes and we women. Easy easy for me to answer this one (but I’m not Anabaptist so not sure if my answer counts)

has nothing to do w being anabaptist or not anabaptist.

snakes are good as long as they stay where they belong. as in, out of my sight.
they have their place in God's creation, just as everything else does. i just prefer not to know they are around.

He put enmity between my grandma and the garter snake I caught at her house when I was about twelve. I was told she wasn't too sure about it when I took it home and kept it as a pet because of the connection to the devil in Genesis. I believe I ended up letting it go a few months later. (It was not the only snake I kept as a pet.)

I used to hate them. Where I lived were very rare and only ever harmless garter snakes, no venomous ones, but all were untrustworthy as far as I was concerned. I’d just kill them. There weren’t gophers either, or as many voles.
But then I moved to another area, where there were bigger problems. There are the occasional rattler. We have here garter snakes and bull snakes. We also have gophers, and lots of voles. Now I’ve come to really appreciate the garter snakes and bull snakes and I protect them, because they seem to push out the rattlers (supposedly), and they eat the gophers and voles for me.

If you do not like the snakes, pray to St. Patrick. :laugh

Not a fan. I have heard black snakes are good and even get rid of copper snakes so as long as I don't see them- fine. We do have copper snakes but also hognose- the first are poisonous and the 2nd good- so I've heard. But they are difficult to tell apart especially since I will not get close.

As long as they stay in their place and I don't encounter them well then I'm not aware of them so guess it's ok.

Well I don’t appreciate them around my place. But as you know we caught one tonight at our local state park. A 4-5 foot black snake that had just eaten something maybe the size of a mouse or chipmunk and he was really chill. It was fun to play around with him. He was a good snake and we let him go.
