Medical Marijuana or CBD among the conservative anabaptists?
Re: Medical Marijuana or CBD among the conservative anabaptists?
I have a conservative Mennonite friend with a severely disabled daughter who has an extensive seizure problem. At the recommendation of her doctor, and a prescription from him as well, she began administering CBD to her daughter. CBD has improved the seizure activity substantially. Far be it from me to judge this dear woman who is attempting to do what is best for her disabled daughter.

Caffeine has also had a "troubled past". (I used to be a heavy user, but have been "delivered".)

CBD is really different than marijuana. I don't think there are the harmful side effects or "getting high" from CBD, like happens with marijuana.Grace wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 10:48 am I have a conservative Mennonite friend with a severely disabled daughter who has an extensive seizure problem. You are probably right. I think the component that makes one high is removed from CBD.Josh wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 1:42 pmCBD is really different than marijuana. Here where I live there are several CBD distillery's and hemp is grown on the farms for the oil. The hemp needs to be tested in the field for THC before harvest. In order to sell it legally as CBD, the THC content has to be super low. You can't get high on CBD oil. Although last month there was CBD sold here that was tainted by THC. Lawsuit to proceed. https://www.oregonlive.com/business/202 ... y-thc.htmlGrace wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 2:38 pmYou are probably right. I had a conversation with a local health food store, owners of which are anabaptist. CBD does not (shouldn't?) contain THC which is the "druggie" part of marijuana. It basically comes down to $$$. The more money spent, the higher purity CBD contains, and the safer one is not to "pop hot" on a drug test. They told me they have customers who bought a cheap CBD oil online and they failed a urine test. They now use a higher end product and have been fine ever since.Grace wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 2:38 pmYou are probably right. Also, from what I am told, if a vendor claims they do 3rd-party testing, the consumer is most likely safe.

This actually reminds me of what I’ve seen happening in the UK lately, there’s now a real shift toward regulated medical cannabis, even for anxiety. It’s not just CBD anymore. Clinics can prescribe full-spectrum products (with THC) under proper guidance, and the difference is huge when you’re dealing with ongoing issues like anxiety or seizures. If you’re curious how it works in a clinical setting, here’s where I looked into cannabis anxiety treatment. It’s legal, prescription-based, and a lot more reliable than random oils from shops.

That reasoning is actually disgusting. There's plenty of economic opportunity in PA already. If you want to make the argument that legal pot would improve the environment and improve people's lives, go ahead. But let's not encourage bad habits just because we can make money doing so.Governor of Pennsylvania wrote:Nearly all of our neighbors have legalized adult-use cannabis — and while we sit on the sidelines, we're losing out on millions in revenue and millions more in economic activity.
It's time for us to catch up.
Today, the Pennsylvania House took an important step to create more economic opportunity by passing a bill to legalize marijuana.
Now it’s time to find agreement and send a bill to my desk.

Medical marijuana was mostly a sham or a fraud perpetrated by people who just wanted a legal way to get high.
Are there some rare instances where it seems to do some good, such as fighting nausea experienced by patients on chemotherapy? Yes. I think that is pretty well documented. But here in the Pacific Northwest where cannabis has been completely legalized, the medical marijuana industry has all but evaporated.
My wife is a doctor and basically no one asks for cannabis prescriptions or any such thing anymore now that recreational cannabis is legal. She does get questions about CBD. But that is basically no different than the whole enormous and largely unregulated nutritional supplements industry. Like, for example, our new surgeon general (who is not a surgeon or licensed physician, she dropped out of residency) makes her fortune selling supplements and herbal teas through social media. CBD is just a small subset of that whole enormous and growing pile of nonsense (or mostly nonsense).
