OT marriage and NT marriage.

(i think) it helps perspective on all matters of marriage to start with remembering Jesus’ words in the NT.
Jesus doesn’t describe marriage as the ultimate earthly goal, instead, marriage is allowed - to prevent sin.

With this perspective, how much more grave is it to misuse a gift, an exception, to add more sin?

Human brains (and schools of human law) often seem preoccupied with seeking after EXCEPTIONS and workarounds,
rather than seeking after the SPIRIT of God’s intentions.

The SPIRIT of God is to be without sin. This includes in marriage, or without marriage.

- - - - - - -

My principle bugaboo isn’t with those who read, think, believe, disagree.
My sadness is that so many today have NO exposure to the scriptural topic, at all. The cultural commitment to abject ignorance.

Many churches are occupied with members who know little or nothing about scriptural marriage, let alone divorce/remarriage.
It’s ignored in the pulpit.

To be in misery and know sin is the reason is one thing.
To be in misery and simultaneously clueless as to why is another.

Proud and clueless. What a way of life.

I wouldn't agree with this. Adam & Eve were in a sinless state yet the Bible describes them as being married.

Ok, I apologize, I misunderstood the point you were driving at. I agree, there is a gender distinction there.
The question is if Jesus made a distinction because he was talking about OT law, or if he intended us to think there is a gender distinction. Anabaptists (and Catholics) so far have decided there shouldn't be a gender distinction.

However, if someone wants to claim that Jesus prohibited something... all Jesus said is prohibited as far as remarriage is marrying a divorced woman.
Anabaptists and Catholics too got such an idea from Jesus' words in Mark 10:
11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

God is presumably the same yesterday, today, and forever. He created Adam & Eve, instituted marriage (according to Jesus), and then pronounced it good.

Yes, that's correct, and forms the basis in my denomination (which has the "Exception View") on not permitting people who choose to be the aggressor in a divorce to remarry.

However, those verses don't say anything about prohibiting someone whose wife has divorced them from marrying someone else. One takeaway I have from this is that Jesus didn't intend his words to be used as "legislation".

i agree there is no conflict in spirit between OT/NT. Jesus brought His clarity. He was clear that to abstain as He did was best, but to prevent sin, marriage is allowed.

Where does Jesus say the purpose of marriage is to prevent "sin"?

That's interest logic. I never considered it that way. However, I would say that once a person has gone and remarried then they really have consented and approved of there first marriage being divorced or else they could not remarry - so to be realistic both of them did divorce.

Christ also said in Matthew 5 this:
anyone who marries a divorced woman commits adultery.
Making no distinction between who is the aggressor or not.

It is similar to John the Baptist telling the soldiers go ahead and keep being soldiers but you just can't do violence anymore (it really isn't possible). Is it that Christ is using the same logic. Go ahead and remarry if it isn't your fault BUT whenever a divorced person remarries it is adultery. he who can receive it.
