Well, there's a 6th - in Islam, head-veiling has some kind of mystical purpose of keeping the djinn (same word we know as "genie"), that is, the fallen angels, away. Other things that keep them away are "remembering Allah" (dhikr), the various prayers Muslims do, and keeping statues and idols out of one's home.Ernie wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2026 9:38 pm Here are the reasons I have heard so far for why we might not see token veils on Muslims. (Some of these reasons also apply to Jews.)
Did I miss any of not state these accurately?
1. In Islam, veiling is to cover beauty.
2. In Islam, veiling is to cover the neck, ears, and hair.
3. In Islam, veiling is viewed as a functional practice for modesty purpose and does not have a separate symbolic purpose.
4. In Islam, following the rules makes one holy. You can’t play forgiveness from Jesus for rules you do not like.
5. In Islam, head-veiling is often associated with women being second rate rather than viewed as heirs together of the grace of life.
