Well no, actually; a number of Mennonites and others who post here are OK with divorce and remarriage. The forum per se doesn't have a position on it.Only an Anz wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 5:49 pmHah! You may be right...does seem an odd choice in a forum that (I presume) is not on board with divorce & remarriage.

Only an Az, Welcome to MN!
i find MN to be an unusually good place, maybe now rare, to learn about the value of traditional marriage and the pitfalls of D+R.
i wish it were not rare. so much heartache might be prevented if only children and young people were taught early and consistently about the Truths of all that contributes to traditional marriage, both before marriage, after, and during. what is meant by the Bride of Christ. the consequences are far-reaching. our culture wallows in pain, ignorant of “why?” it’s sad.
Regarding politics, government, the secular world.
Many years ago, i read a quote from Henry Kissinger (he used to be in news a lot)
i believe his words were true, definitely in politics, but in general, too. (business, hollywood, sports, etc.)
i believe this is very true throughout history, and in scriptures.
think of how kings and emperors and others in power are indulged in every material and carnal way.
it can be pretty staggering, really.
early on, the U.S. had a bit of a different aspect, being a refuge for many persecuted Christians. many Christians seeking to move away from corruption resulting largely due to conflation of church and state.
so, the U.S., to this day, even so thoroughly corrupted, retains this expectation that leaders should be “better.”
when i was a teen, i was shocked to learn (for instance) European countries had no such shock at carnal sins in high political office. it was expected. not a matter of discussion, moral outrage, nothing. it was expected.
i noticed how everyday people behaved around me. power+money ..
so, eventually, when i read Henry K’s quote, i thought, “isn’t that the truth?!”
not just carnally, but power+money seduce human psyches. sadly, it happens in churches.
In Christian churches, scriptures describe pretty well what can and should be expected in church leaders.
It IS different from the secular world. Usually, very different.
The role of POTUS is not pastor, priest, or rabbi.

The role of the president isn't a serial adulterer either. And and leadership includes fidelity and honor.temporal1 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 02, 2021 7:33 ammike wrote: ↑Fri Oct 01, 2021 5:55 pmWell no, actually; a number of Mennonites and others who post here are OK with divorce and remarriage. Re: US Presidents

did anyone suggest this?
my thoughts were intended to add historical perspective, with mention of human nature without benefit of morality, or specifically Christian morality.
in scriptures, as maybe Valerie and Grace sometimes point out with helpful examples, God has appointed serial sinners for His purposes; in the NT, Saul was inspired to conversion, etc.
on earth, God uses sinners, doesn’t He? He has the option not to, He has saints and angels.
i see no reason not to seek the best, hope for the best. i’m a regular Christian U.S. citizen.
my post was just about adding perspective.
my impression is, many in the U.S. have unusual expectations for presidents and other politicians, leaders.
and how that came about. (the “exceptional U.S.” haunts, doesn’t it?)
there’s been a lot of hanky-panky in the U.S. White House. in elected office.
one recent POTUS was thought to be a serial adulterer in his private life. no evidence he indulged in elected office,
plenty of history of other presidents betraying public trust in that way in active elected office in the White House.
i am surprised this distinction is not made clear. “while in elected office.”
i suppose most/many career politicians wouldn’t want to point it out.
