"Parents" who hire surrogate try to force her to get an abortion.

"Parents" who hire surrogate try to force her to get an abortion.

Post by JohnH »

This is a rather wild case. The summary from Chris Brunet seems to be accurate.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mu ... rcna591949

Absolutely gruesome:
According to West’s filing, Ahmed and Gilkar sought to enforce an abortion clause in their surrogacy agreement because of the baby’s condition, but West hesitated.

In the first week of May, she was scheduled to have the abortion — a dilation-and-evacuation procedure — in Seattle. West described the “deep pain and sorrow” she felt as the date approached as she wrestled with whether to go through with the abortion, according to the complaint.
These sperm & egg donors (I refuse to call them parents) then further bullied and abused the surrogate mother:
West said Ahmed and Gilkar urged her to continue with the termination process and to seek mental health counseling, according to her complaint. She also alleged that she received a letter from her attorney on May 7 saying that if she didn’t have the abortion, she would be in breach of her surrogacy agreement and potentially liable up to $250,000.

She accused the couple of trying to intimidate her into having the procedure, her complaint says.

A response the couple’s attorney filed in Alaska alleges that West was “clear and knowing in her intention to abide by” the parents’ request for a termination if tests revealed a fetal abnormality.

A specialist in Alaska told Ahmed and Gilkar that the baby’s condition would require “highly specialized medical care” and that he would most likely face a “lifelong course of serious medical challenges,” according to their filing. Termination was presented as an option because of the severity and uncertainty of the baby’s prognosis, they said.
Murdering a baby because it's inconvenient.

Fortunately, Texas' Attorney General is at least making sure the "parents" can't arrange to have the newborn baby denied medical care in the hopes he will just die:
Paxton filed a motion Monday in Texas asking the court to issue an order for doctors to perform surgery after the child’s birth while the custody dispute is being fought in the courts. He alleged that the biological parents may seek to move the child to California and that they may deny the baby care.

A temporary restraining order was issued Tuesday in favor of Texas’ intervention, and a court-appointed guardian was to receive all “pertinent medical information” about the baby after his birth.
It is absolutely disgusting that any human being would behave this way towards their own child, particularly when someone else (the surrogate mother, in this case) seems perfectly willing to keep the baby.

The baby was born and is now in 'custody' of biological parents. Really wonder what will happen to this child. Won't allow surrogate mother custody

First they want the baby. Then they don't want it. Now they do. Or do they? :?

I truly wonder if they want that baby and what kind of health care it will get.

This is also an indictment of our healthcare system. No parent should have to bear the financial burden of at least 3 major heart surgeries. I used to cooperate with the pediatric cardiology people at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. How to pay for care never seemed to be a factor for parents.

This could easily bankrupt them. This should never be.

If they can afford to pay for a surrogate, why can't they pay for health insurance?

I agree about it being an indictment of the healthcare system - it's just one more illustration of what's wrong with surrogacy.

No matter how many mental acrobatics those who defend surrogacy perform, it is literally buying a baby. This case is utterly diabolical and a prime example of what happens when we surrender our will to the love of money, to the demon mammon

Try adding that child onto an existing policy and see how far you get. My guess is that you would have to adopt and add it that way.

If they aren’t eligible to add the child as a dependent, then they won’t be responsible for any medical bills.

A child in California or TX without a parent who can’t afford medical bills / insurance will have their care paid for by the state.

Canada’s dreamy healthcare, from Seat 33F: :?
1) my daughter+family lived+worked in Montreal for 2 years with a newborn to 2 year old.
2) the baby suffered painful chronic ear infections, was put on antibiotics - for 2 years!
3) after 2 years, they moved for work to Dallas, pediatricians immediately put tubes in her ears and removed adenoids.
problems mitigated.
4) reports are, Canadians who can afford it come to the U.S. for healthcare?
5) M.A.i. D. https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/ ... dying.html

i once had a black cab driver who enthusiastically extolled the utter marvels of Canada’s heathcare.
i encouraged him to keep studying.

“All that glitters” .. :-|

Bankruptcy hasn’t been the life’s horror it once was. Not the EOTW.
For many, a fresh start.
There are different types of bankruptcies, used for different purposes.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.
