Saw in the newsfeed that the new head of the Church of England is a woman. She’s the first woman to lead it. The story feed reset before I could get more information. Does anyone know what’s happening there?

Your news feed might be a little stale; the first female head of the Church of England was in 1559.

Yes, the British monarch is the head of the church. The Archbishop of Canterbury is the highest church office. This is the news JohnL is referencing:

Considering that the last guy resigned in disgrace after failing to deal with sex abuse in the church, the new female Archbishop of Canterbury might be an improvement:

.. Considering that the last guy resigned in disgrace after failing to deal with sex abuse in the church ..
This is the unfortunate segue implemented in the 1990’s, when the priest abuse scandals rocked the airways and cyberspace.
The noise was, “how awful! - women+homosexuals would be better-than” .. years later, no. Or, a hard no.
Human reasoning isn’t sufficient.

Joshua Lindsey did a video about this three days ago and already got 357K views.

I was under the impression that years ago Anglicanism had already broken into several branches. One part went traditional old school and another part joined the Catholics.

Did you teach your students about Charles II and James II/VII?

I imagine Joshua is correct that the broader Anglican communion will come apart. Listening to the statements of the various factions, I didn't hear a side express the sorrow and humility I would want to join. If I were Anglican, I don't know where I would go.

It may be an unfair historical lens, but the founding cause of the Anglican Church, was never premised on humility and sorrow - and as such, it would be hard for me to ever see joining their religious tradition. Not saying God didn't use them, but the irony of unorthodox sexual proclivities being related to both the founding and dissolution of the Anglican church is sharp. And the problems associated with, and named in the likely dissolution are not more severe, and perhaps less, than the problems with the founding/founder.

Maybe less? As far I know those pushing for same sex marriage from within Anglicanism are not executing their partners.
