Nobel Peace Prize

About the prize
“The said interest shall be divided into five equal parts, which shall be apportioned as follows: /- – -/ one part to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.” (Excerpt from the will of Alfred Nobel)

Alfred Nobel showed a big interest in social issues and was engaged in the peace movement. His acquaintance with Bertha von Suttner, who was a driving force in the international peace movement in Europe and later awarded the peace prize, influenced his views on peace. Peace was the fifth and final prize area that Nobel mentioned in his will. The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded by a committee elected by the Norwegian Parliament (Stortinget). .. ..

Human constructs.
Ironic how the reputation of the Peace Prize was tarnished in 2009 by anticipation+enthusiasm, over accomplishments.
A strange error.

Just a day before the U.S. launched strikes on Iran, Pakistan had stated its intention to “formally recommend” U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The country expressed its desire to recognize Trump’s role in helping India and Pakistan reach a cease-fire after conflict between the two long-time rivals resurged earlier this year.

…

Pakistan’s announcement of its intentions regarding a nomination came as Trump posted on Truth Social about the Nobel Peace Prize when commenting on his international mediating.

Within that social media post, Trump took credit for “stopping the war” between India and Pakistan.

“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan. I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between Serbia and Kosovo. I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for keeping peace between Egypt and Ethiopia," Trump claimed.

Pakistan’s Nobel Peace Prize recommendation occurred just one day before Trump authorized the U.S. to strike three nuclear weapons bases in Iran, joining the Israeli conflict.

"Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!," Trump said late on Saturday night, as he announced the military action.

The Government of Pakistan, which shares a 560-mile border with Iran, spoke out on Sunday in condemnation of the strikes, calling them a serious violation of international law and the IAEA Statute.”

Pakistan reified its support of “Iran’s right to self-defence,” but also urged that diplomacy is the only path forward. Still, Pakistan’s alliance with Iran throws into doubt the country’s intention to nominate Trump for the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize.

Can’t beat that Pakistani timing.
From what i know, Trump hasn’t responded. It is a weird. i think no response is best for now.
^^R7ehr’s post made me think of the Prize as a topic.
i haven’t noticed anymore about the Pakistani nomination, but potentional nominations appear in the airwaves now+then.

You know i enjoy these lively young men who vote. (Disclaimer, they use colorful language.)
i enjoy “everyman” views, esp conservative. They are Trump enthusiasts. And, Thomas Sowell.
And, Marco Rubio.

They believe they are Christian.

i expect they would be eligible for the draft, if activated; they pay attention.

Here they are mostly talking about The D.R. Congo and Rwanda. Interesting to me. :)
They want DJT to be nominated for the Peace Prize, they cite several reasons.

i’m not sure why BLM is in their subject line. Subject lines are often puzzling.
It’s mentioned in passing.

I’d considered starting a thread on to track and discuss “Trump and the Nobel Peace Prize”. I think it will be a periodic topic.

As i recall, Peace Prize talk for Trump began in his first term, esp wrt the Abraham Accords:
(Btw, the polar opposite of grim predictions BEFORE he was elected.)

Good things topic:
Robert wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2024 9:02 pm These are the big things I do think the Trump presidency did. It was not hold overs from Obama, but things they did that made a big impact.

The Abraham Accords.

Calming North Korea.

Bringing fuel prices down, which affects almost everything since transportation is in about every thing you buy and how you get to where you need to go. By bringing down oil prices by greatly increasing US production, it took the power away from OPEC, Iran, and Russia.

We did see a lot of peace and prosperity in those years.

I do think others could have done the same, but they seem to have chosen not to do so.

I do hope we can eventually get someone who is a decent person and can bring these things, like Vivek, but this thread is not about him.

Before obama, i never considered the Nobel Peace Prize could or would be contentious.
It seemed straightforward enough, not always easy decisions, but .. considered, with reason.

Oslo has become “bizarre Oslo” in my view.

Though it took him about nine months longer than he had bragged it would, nevertheless he and his team pulled off a genuinely difficult and complex negotiation that may have ended this brutal conflict and brought peace. He has shown himself to be a skilled deal-maker, and I, for one, truly appreciate it.

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado
Oct 10 / Newsweek / Nobel Peace Prize Winner Dedicates Her Award to Donald Trump
https://www.newsweek.com/nobel-peace-pr ... o-10862378
.. Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado has publicly dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to the people of Venezuela
and to President Donald Trump, citing their unwavering support in the fight for democracy. In a statement shared on X, Machado called the recognition “a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.”
i believe she said more about Trump, i’d like to see her full comments.

i imagine the Prize puts her in an unnecessary position of humility and embarrasment on the world stage. i’m sorry for that.
to his credit, i recall obama experienced similar.

 i’m so so glad i happened to view this.

Jesús Enrique Rosas is a legal U.S. citizen from Venezuela. He’s interested.
He touches on several points.

For this topic, the fact media is (conveniently) ignoring eligibility requirements is pertinent. see quote below.

4:40min mark, shameless wisdom from TIME.

JER is saying:
Trump could NOT have received the 2025 Prize.
The deadline for nominations was Jan 1 2025. He wasn’t sworn into office.

(Which brings more questions wrt obama’s Prize, not the topic here.) Oslo. Oslo. Oslo.

Jesús Enrique Rosas / The Body Language Guy
“My thoughts on María Corina Machado, Trump and the Nobel 'Peace' Prize” / 16min

JER’s OPINION platform. “Everyman” opinions.
Yes, lying by omission is still considered lying.
It involves leaving out important information, which can mislead others and lead them to think and act differently than if they had all the facts. Research shows that lying by omission can be just as damaging as direct lying, and it is not more honest than outright falsehoods. While some may view it as a less severe form of dishonesty, it still constitutes a form of lying.

Did you hear/see where she called President Trump and told him that she is dedicating her Nobel peace Prize to him as she felt he deserved it? I really admired her for that.
He was very touched by the call and gesture.

yes.
i imagine Trump will win it next year, there’s time for his nomination.

Jesús Enrique Rosas doesn’t think he’ll be chosen, no matter. He has good reason! - i agree, but, i’m more optimistic.
