Harvard has revoked the tenure of Business School professor Francesca Gino after an internal investigation found she manipulated data in multiple studies to support her conclusions. It’s the first known case of a tenured professor being dismissed since Harvard formalized its process in the 1940s. Gino, once seen as an expert in ethics and decision-making, came under scrutiny after the academic blog Data Colada flagged a 2012 study on honesty that was later retracted.

Gino was once among Harvard’s highest-paid faculty, earning $1M annually in 2018 and 2019. She has denied the allegations and is suing Harvard and the blog’s authors for $25M, claiming defamation, breach of contract, and gender discrimination. A federal judge has dismissed the defamation claim but allowed her contract-related claims to proceed. Gino has published two books and more than 140 academic papers, including one on workplace dishonesty.

Now let's see if Trump forces Harvard to give her tenure back. 8-)

Probably not.
This business of faking or manipulating data is not unusual in academia. Lots of reasons but the number one reason is money.

Money to some extent sure. But probably the bigger motivation is ambition. Academia is a dog-eat-dog world with a lot of competition for relatively few tenure-track positions at prestigious universities. Most of these people could earn more money outside of academia but with less prestige.

By the way, I don't know how a business professor earns $1 million at Harvard. That is most certainly not a professor salary. It must be goosed by things like book sales, speaking engagements, summer seminars and the like.

So Harvard has the integrity to fire professors who falsify or plagiarize material.

Since this White House is setting itself up as a higher authority than Harvard, I'm curious if they are going to fire RFK Jr. now that he has produced and released a MAHA "Make our Children Health Again" report (under RFK Jr. and Trump's name) on child health that is riddled with falsified garbage complete with over 37 fake and made up citations. I mean it is a complete embarrassment. Clearly the man has no business running HHS: https://wapo.st/45wdA6A and https://wapo.st/43AWz8O

As opposed to the prior wave of stuff that’s grounded in facts and science like 6’ social distancing?

Social distancing was and is grounded in science. The 6' recommendation was a political compromise. As are most public health measures to some extent.

People haven’t realized they need to fack check AI when you let it write your reports for them.

I wonder if this type of thing will be the most damaging effect of AI, the contamination of knowledge leading to a suspicion and rejection of knowledge.
