A wee little man can’t say, I’m sorry. A big man owns his mistakes and apologizes.
A wee little man trusts himself and his own discernment. A big man is humble enough to know that he needs the counsel and input of others.

Re: The Pope to Replace Pope Francis
The cardinals in the lineup to replace Pope Francis are 67-80 years old with most being closer to 80.

Re: The Pope to Replace Pope Francis
I hereby declare I have no idea who will replace Pope Francis.
Most of the cardinals who are eligible to vote were chosen by Pope Francis, so you might think that means they will choose someone like him. But most of the cardinals who chose Pope Francis were chosen by Pope Benedict, a very different pope.

1. Are we discussing the topic? Good.
2. Are we going around and around in a fight? Let's stop doing that.
3. Is there some serious wrongdoing or relational injury? Let's address that, probably not in public and certainly not for show.

I hearby second your declaration! If we have a third, it will be passed into law! “I have no idea who” will be in the running for pope!

It seems early to discuss. i have no idea how things are handled.
i’m surprised Cardinal Sarah is a possibility. i don’t know of the others, i’ve favored C Sarah and C Burke.
i don’t think C Burke is well enough.

From the OP link:
i would be happy if C Sarah is Pope.Cardinal Robert Sarah
Sarah, 79, of Guinea, the retired head of the Vatican’s liturgy office, was long considered the best hope for an African pope.
Beloved by conservatives, Sarah would signal a return to the doctrinaire and liturgically minded papacies of John Paul II and Benedict.
Sarah, who had previously headed the Vatican’s charity office Cor Unum, clashed on several occasions with Pope Francis, none more seriously than when he and Pope Benedict co-authored a book advocating the “necessity” of continued celibacy for Latin Rite priests.
The book came out as Francis was weighing whether to allow married priests in the Amazon to address a priest shortage there.

i’m perfectly comfortable with an older, wiser, more docile Trump.

I nominate Cardinal Arenado. Time for an American Pope. Born in California, he is of Cuban and Puerto Rican descent, and speaks Spanish fluently, which is a plus considering how important Central and South America is for the Vatican. Time for Pope Nolan I.

By rule they can't be over 80 and participate in the Conclave.Ernie wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 10:32 am The cardinals in the lineup to replace Pope Francis are 67-80 years old with most being closer to 80.

But yes, young men don't become cardinals. That is the nature of the church hierarchy. No one gets selected cardinal at age 25 or 30 fresh out of seminary. You slowly work your way up and pay your dues. Most cardinals didn't get appointed to the College of Cardinals until they are in their 60s. It is the nature of the institution.

Re: The Pope to Replace Pope Francis
As predicted by the abbott (and Costello), Who will be the next pope.
I look forward to the smoke signals with the voting results.
White smoke? Pope.
Black smoke? Nope.

Much better to have a third baseman. Besides, rumor this morning has it that Cardinal Arenado is already prepping the organization to accept his change of roles.ohio jones wrote: ↑Mon Apr 21, 2025 2:02 pm As predicted by the abbott (and Costello), Who will be the next pope.
