When Aganetha Unger pulled up her large, white van to the emergency measles testing site, several of her eight children were coughing.

“We had some sickness in the house, not very bad, but some fever, some cough,” said Unger, who is Mennonite. One child, she said, had a fever of 103 degrees.

…

The city of Seminole is the seat of Gaines County, Texas, and the epicenter of the current measles outbreak. It’s located in a vast, flat region filled with ranchers and peanut and cotton farmers.

There’s also a large Mennonite population, a religious sect that believes in “total separation from the outside world,” according to the Texas State Historical Association. These Mennonites chose to settle in Gaines County, in part, for its lack of regulation on private schools. This includes vaccine mandates.

.. prayers for everyone to get through it ok. including the caretakers.
we lived through measles, mumps, chicken pox, and were grateful we didn’t get scarlet fever, whooping cough, etc.
polio. we could have! high fevers can cause organ and brain damage. it’s really bad.

While I doubt this is actually the reason most of them are declining the vaccine, the MMR vaccine is produced with fetal cells. The Measles vaccine itself is ethical and used to be produced but our government pressured (Merck?) to stop producing the monovalent measles, mumps and rubella because uptake of rubella was low.
By implication, there were some who stopped taking the measles vaccine entirely.

Canada and Mexico both still produce the ethical monovalent measles vaccine and the old mumps vaccine was actually more effective.

Soloist, I respect your position but I also notice the middle M of the MMR vaccine used to be a significant cause of fetal cell damage producing significant numbers of children born blind and mentally handicapped. I suspect we are going to see this make a comeback.

And if they would offer us vaccines made without aborted babies, I would gladly have them administered to my children.

Your move!

Honestly, it’s hard to say… but the mumps vaccine is not nearly as effective nowadays.
I got the vaccine in the military the whole series. I had to be tested for immunity before Nursing School. Specifically they wanted to see immunity to measles and chickenpox.
I was not immune to mumps Which is what got me started on the bunny trail finding out its effectivity.
Both mumps and pertussis lost effectiveness when they were reformulated.

As far as that goes though, I don’t see the literature supporting what you said. Are you sure it’s mumps that you are referring to?
It was just a quick glance, I haven’t looked into that specifically.
Measles really is the concerning one. Rubella was mostly overblown and mumps while concerning for fertility… is not generally dangerous.
Measles spreads super fast and is not a joke. If the ethical version was still provided in the US, My children would get the measles vaccine.
I actually had measles as a child.

Maybe I have the order wrong. It used to be called German measles.

I'm curious how you understand this. As I understand it was developed with cell lines that originated from a fetus. Are you suggesting the vaccine contains actual cells from a fetus?

MMR- measles, mumps, rubella/German measles.
From my understanding, as I was growing up German measles were very dangerous to pregnant women in their first trimester- leading to abnormalities/birth defects, spontaneous abortions/miscarriages, still birth, premature birth.
